  • A superb Scooby movie with a surprise climax to end them all. Couldn't they have released this to theaters instead of the two live-action ones?

    9.1
It's not often when the Scooby Doo canon veers off its normal path and focuses an entire 90-minute movie around one of its pivotal stars. "Where's My Mummy?" does just that, centering around wonderful Velma (voiced by the equally wonderful Mindy Cohn) who is in Egypt to help catalog the tomb of Cleopatra with the help of Omar, a young prince.

The usual set-up ensues as treasure hunter Amelia Von Butch transgresses the site to search for Cleopatra's treasure and invoke her curse. Rock Rivers, a TV documentary filmer, is there to complicate things. All the set-ups are in place until Prince Omar, and then Velma, are turned (presumably) to stone. The Scooby chemistry is in full place here and is magnified when Fred and Daphne break the bad news to Shaggy and Scooby that Velma was turned to stone. The kids sit in mournful silence, while Scooby wails loudly. Scooby's adoration of Velma is displayed early in the movie when he and the kids visit her (he jumps right on top of Velma licks her face profusely the same way he does Shaggy) and at the end when Scooby unmasks Cleopatra as Velma herself. And that ending was one that was not--for a change--telegraphed. Equally for a change was the phony ghost put to use for good.

Scooby Doo in Where's My Mummy? is a true standout not only in the Scooby universe but in made-for-TV cartoon movies as well.moreless
