The Scooby Doo Show premiered on ABC in September 1976 as part of The Scooby-Doo-Dynomutt Hour, in which new episodes of Scooby Doo shared an hour with a superhero dog named Dynomutt. It was a revamped version of Scooby Doo, Where Are You? which started on CBS in 1969.

In September of 1977, The Scooby-Doo Show once again shared an hour with The All-Star Laff-A-Lympics,which placed Scooby's team, Yogi's team, and Dread Baron's team competing to win points for their team.

In 1978, the show had its own 30-minute segment until it was replaced with Scooby and Scrappy Doo in 1979.

On a visit to Daphne's Uncle Matt's ranch, Scooby and friends encounter a giant, flying bull and a gang of cattle rustlers. In Hidden Valley, site of an ancient Indian burial mound and cliff dwellings, Freddy, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy discover the hideout of the rustlers who have been plaguing Uncle Matt. Disguised in a cow costume, Shag and Scooby-Doo foil the thieves' operation. The "flying bull" turns out to be a painted helicopter, and the rustlers are Matt's "friend" and neighbor Sam Farren and Matt's own cook, Lenny. The gang make ready to ride back to Matt's ranch in their Mystery Machine, but not before discovering that the "costumed" cow with them is not Shaggy and Scooby, but a real cow -- while the real Shag and Scooby-Doo has spent the better part of 10 minutes in a carrot field, "grazing"!
