The episode starts off with workers being scared away by a construction site by a ghost. Meanwhile, the gang is having a pizza at a local pizza parlor. The gang is low on money, and after searching through job listings, they decide to apply for jobs at the construction site, where they learn that a mysterious figure has scared off most of the workers. Shaggy, Scooby and Fred apply for the job, while Velma and Daphne go to the local newspaper office to find out more about the ghost.

While working at the construction site, Shaggy and Scooby encounter the ghost at different areas of the building. Meanwhile at the newspaper office, Velma reads that the ghost is Ebenezer Crabb. He built a house at the construction site 120 years ago and was accused of black magic for the next 50 years, because he never seemed to grow older. Velma drives the Mystery Machine back to the construction site and Shaggy, Scooby and Velma go to Ebenezer's old house to search for clues, where they meets Ebenezer's great granddaughter Nettie Crabb.

While at the house, Velma finds a receipt for a very expensive telescopic lens made out to Ebenezer Crabb. They go to the Optical Lens Co. The lens is a special light gathering lens used for seeing things in the dark. Back at the construction site, the gang palns to make a trap for Ebenezer, but it backfires. However, they catch Nettie and Ebenezer Crabb in a one of the penthouses when Shaggy accidently throws quick-drying cement onto their feet.

The culprits are unmasked as two of the construction workers. With a special light gathering lens, they were able to see the owners of different buildings opening their safes and write down the combinations. Since the contruction site was obstructing their view, they needed to scare off the workers.moreless
