  • Great entertainment, as long as you're not looking for the flaws

This is a really enjoyable piece of entertainment from the late 1950's and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is engrossing and a fun 30 minutes. The only problem is when you're watching it in detail (say to write a summary or recap, with a DVR), you realize there are many flaws / mistakes made by the writers. While some are in the trivia section (as goofs), another one is how Mike didn't think to use reserve on the two tanks still on the boat. At least it seems Mike and Jennie came up before having to use those two reserves. Of course, using them wouldn't allow the writers to have the action of Mike holding his breath in cold water for 3 minutes (besting his personal record of 2 minutes 6+ seconds in warm water and in the lab). Obviously Mike and the researcher will need to examine how emotional and situational pressure affect the ability to hold one's breath underwater. This weekend was a success for Mike on many different levels.

As always, I round up my ratings so 9.51 becomes 10.0. Too bad took the .1 separations away.moreless

    • Goof: Jennie and Mike both at different times say she rented the boat for the entire weekend. Yet, once on the boat Jennie says she's paying by the hour before the first dive and wants to save a little money.

    • Goof: When Nelson prepares to dive without tanks to rescue Jennie, he's seen in a wide shot putting his mask down over his face as he barks orders to the boat captain to call the Coast Guard. But a second later when the shot cuts to a close up just before he dives, the mask is mysteriously back up on top of his head as he dives into the water with it still off his face. The next shot shows the mask back ON his face as he swims underwater.
