  • It was what it was: Secret Diary of a Call Girl's first episode.

I like the idea of the show, I just don't know where or how they are going to take this show. The pilot episode didn't give the show a sense of direction, no new arcs opened up, it wouldn't keep the watcher intrigued for the next episode. Of course it was good on introductions, we got the feel of the show. We know Belle has an agent, Stephanie. Has a best friend Ben, who doesn't know about her secret lifestyle. I guess that's the only plot open for the future. I like the narrative spin Belle does on the show. We also see how funny the show could be with that last sex scene, ride em cowgirl! I laughed so hard at that part. Okay beginning episode.moreless
  • Interesting idea for a show, that provides for an interesting experience. Warning, some spoilers are contained below.

Definitely an interesting look into the life of a call girl, I never would have expected what I saw in this episode. So in the first half of the episode, we are introduced to the main character and her life, which includes her rules. Later, we see she accidentally breaks one of her rules, which doesn't seem to go well for Hannah. The show was different then most I watch, but it was interesting in its own way. I liked how it doesn't make the women involved in the call girl service seem all that bad, they come across as pretty normal people doing a job. It's not like before the show, I thought of people like this in a certain way, I just never really knew what these types of people could be like, since I don't know anyone like that. I liked how the show established Hannah's character early on, it gives us an idea of who she is, but leaves enough mystery so that we want to learn more about her. She definitely has an interesting personality to her, which is what draws me to this show. I know how it can look to some people, might look like I only watch this show for the sex. But if I wanted to see that, I would watch something else, not a TV show. Interesting start to the show, and I hope that the later episodes continue to get better.moreless
  • It shows the inner workings or a high classed London based call girl.

I honestly did not know what to think about this show. The title got me interested, Billie Piper got me even more interested. I never even heard of her until Doctor Who and I absolutely adored her. There was nothing even remotely risque in any of her scenes. I then looked as some of her music videos and they were not as vampish as many of them are.

Her previously persona on TV was anything but this and I wondered if she could pull it off, it was probably a preconceived notion of the kind of girl you would want to take home to meet your parents.

She delivers, she does not seem to be nervous or strained in any way. I even watched the few extra clips that were available on Showtime. All in all, I liked what I saw and Billie Piper may be the girl next door, or the character she plays, she does it so well we really do not know.

Will I watch more, absolutely. Do I want her back with the Doctor, a definite yes.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • In this episode Belle is clearly seen drinking red wine, however in the next episode she says she does not drink with clients.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Belle: Work out what the client wants as fast as you can and give it to him.

    • Stephanie: (Passes a sketch) Now, ugly mugs. This gentleman has been all over town with fraudulent money. Shiny notes. He tried it on one of Bruce's girls, she said he spoke with an accent.
      Yolanda: Eastern European.
Tanya: You can't say that, no! It's racist.
Yolanda: You can't be fucking racist if it's Eastern Europeans.
      Hannah: You can be prejudiced.
      Yolanda: I'm fucking prejudiced then.
Hannah: Right, then we're all agreed.
      Tanya: They are my people!
Yolanda: Well that's funny how you're listed as Swedish on the site, isn't it?

    • Hannah: Where's Fiona?
Rachel: Apparently her bloke saw the photo of her on the internet. Recognized the underwear he bought her for Christmas.
      Yolanda & Tanya: No!
Hannah: Maybe I should get my pictures more pixilated.
Stephanie: No one is getting more pixilated! Christ, they can barely make out your gender as it is.

    • Belle: Escort, hooker, prostitute, whore, I don't mind what you call me; that's just semantics.

    • Belle: My sister is nine months pregnant, she looks like a Volvo.

    • Belle: The first thing you should know about me is that I'm a whore.

    • Hannah: So why do I do it? I love sex and I love money.

    • Belle: In a world of children in bikinis and grandmothers in "fuck-me" boots, the surest way to tell a prostitute is to look for the woman in the designer suit.
