I liked this episode, its my second favourite episode of season 1. I really enjoyed this episode, being a huge improvement from the other two episodes ( i havnt seen the pilot yet) and a lesson for me, yes ive really learned something from this episode like when you dont wanna be with your friend you can just say: "I gotta teach my nephew geometry you know , trapezoy.."
or: "I ran out of underwear i cant leave the house!"
or my favourite: "Ive been diagnosed with double personality, im not even me im dan!!!!!" Elaine, good stuff! But one of the best things about this episodes is Kramer and the "make your own pizza" idea, wich apears later on in the show, season 6, with poppy, i think. And what about "the break up with your friend" thing, hilarious, just great stuff. But next episode is even better, so check season 1 because of episode 3, this and episode 5"The Stock Tip", classic!!moreless

  • Jerry larns that it may be harder to get out of a male relationship than a female relationship when he tries to "stop seeing" his old neighborhood friend, Joel.

This episode was average. There was some funny jokes and it had a nice storyline but it wasn't hilarous. This is the first episode where Kramer mentioned there should be a place where you go and make your own pizza pie! Jerry trying to "break up" with his old neighborhood friend was funny to see, also. They did have some "nothing" conversations (like the concept about if WEDNESDAY night means next Wednesday night or tonight.) Of course, Seinfeld didn't get the reputation for being a show about nothing until the 4th season, but it is still fun to look out for conversations about "nothing." In conclusion, this was an OK episode, but I wouldn't put this one on my "Top 10 List" or "Top 25" or "Top 50..."moreless

    • For the majority of the series, Jerry's apartment number is 5A (and is shown at least once as 3A). This apartment number is indicated in black letters and numbers on the apartment door. However, in this episode, Jerry's apartment number is 411, indicated in gold-colored metal numbers next to the door. Something else, also gold-colored metal, is mounted on Jerry's door instead. Edit
    • While George is at the bank stand with a glass vase full of pennies he says that "he'll have to roll 6000 pennies by himself". I'd estimate about 50,000 pennies in that vase. Edit
    • In Jerry's kitchen there is no shelf dedicated to all of his cereal like there is in later episodes. There is just a space between the rest of the cupboards. Edit
  • Notes

    ADD NOTES
    • Alternate ending: Joel asks Jerry if he can date Elaine. Jerry "breaks up" with Joel. Joel leaves only to return to say that he will come back the following week to return a k.d. lang tape he borrowed from Jerry. Edit
    • Jerry's stand-up performance in this episode was filmed twice. Originally, the set was a brightly lit room. But it was decided that the nightclub set should continue to be used and the material was performed again. Edit
    • In early drafts of the script, Kramer is named "Breckman". Edit

    • Jerry: I do not like the bank. I've heard the expression "Laughing all the way to the bank." I have never seen anyone actually doing it. And those bank lines. I hate it when there's nobody on the line at all, you know that part, you go to the bank, it's empty and you still have to go through the little maze. "Can you get a little piece of cheese for me? I'm almost at the front. I'd like a reward for this please." Edit
    • Elaine: Come on. Let's go do something. I don't want to just sit around here. Wanna get something to eat? Jerry: Where? Elaine: I don't care. I'm not hungry. Jerry: We could go to one of those cappuccino places. They let you just sit there. Elaine: What are we gonna do there, talk? Jerry: We can talk. Elaine: I'll go if I don't have to talk. Jerry: Then we'll just sit there. Edit
    • George: Why did I tell her I like her? I have this sick compulsion to tell women how I feel. Edit
