  • Risky episode (very similar to The Chinese Restaurant), turned out to be lots of fun!

I'm not sure if I like The Parking Lot because it reminds me of myself; I'm always ultra paranoid that I am going to forget where I parked! Or perhaps I just like it because it's like The Chinese Restaurant, where pretty much nothing happens in the entire episode, except for a bunch of random, nonsensical things.

The gold fish idea was great. How hilarious! I remember being a kid, and having the same problem as Elaine while I was at a carnival.

Also loved that they asked someone for a ride. The whole darn episode never fails to make me laugh! Props to the writers for taking a risk.moreless
  • Definetely, one cool classic from Seinfeld...

This has the be one of those episodes of Seinfeld that is actually in good ratings, and this is one of the best episodes I have ever watch in all my life. It was so hilarious and funny, though I only see it once I think that this is one of the coolest episodes...

Jerry has to use the bathroom and George helps him to tried to find it, but in the end he ends up doing it in the street and that causes both of them to get arrested. Kramer is carrying a box with an air conditioner, and Elaine tries to get help from the people that are passing by. In the end, they managed to find out the car but ends up without able to turn on. It was one of the funniest episodes of Seinfeld ever... really cool!moreless
  • Everyone separates to try to find the car in a huge parking garage.

This episode was so funny. I enjoyed watching this episode so much. I feel bad for Elaine's poor fish. It was so sad that they died. It was so hilarious when Jerry got caught doing number one in the parking space, and then George was, and they both had the same excuse. It was hilarious! This episode was very well written. I loved the end where the car would not start. I think it would have been funny to see the other ending, where the cast drives around in circles searching for the exit. It would have been so hilarious, which is exactly what this series is good for.moreless
  • Truly a series classic.

    9.3
This is one of my top ten episodes, mainly for Kramer's character evolving in it. At this point he hadn't yet become the guy we all love and know, but this really defined him, just the crazy running around and it was great. All the characters were amazingly acted out in this episode. The ending I like as well, even though it wasn't scripted, it was still one of the most classic moments of the series. This should've won the Emmy, it's just a wonderful piece of television, every time it comes on cable I watch it, even though I already own it on DVD.

    This is just brilliant.moreless
  • I got diagnosed with Euromisatisis after watching this episode.

    9.0
Problems: All four are stuck in a parking garage. Jerry needs to go to the bathroom. After getting advice from Kramer, he decides to go right in a dark corner. He is caught by a guard. Meanwhile, George needs to get to his parents house. (May I mention that we have no idea who his parents are at this point of the series), and Kramer has a Airconditioner to find when he puts it down somewhere. Purple 23. Elaine bought two fish, but they won't live long due to the bag.

I thought this was yet another great installment! Many people thought this, and many episodes to come were copies of "The Chinese Restaurant" (season 2), but I thought that they all had their weird twists.moreless

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • In this episode, longtime Seinfeld contributor Larry Charles makes a brief cameo appearance. He is the unresponsive man walking by with long hair and sunglasses.

    • When Kramer is hiding the air conditioner in front of the car, you can see the wall wobble when he bangs against it which shows that it's a set.

    • This is the first time we see Kramer's car. The car is a Chevy Nova from the early to mid 1970s. He drives it in the entire series.

    • Kramer's unoffical catchphrase "Giddy Up" is first used in this episode.

    • When Jerry and George are walking down the stairway and takling about Red China, they are walking side by side. In the nest shot after they round the corner, they switched places.

    • When Kramer finally finds the car and is putting the box in the trunk, a hand (George's?) reaches to help with the trunk door. In the next shot the hand is gone.

    • At the end of the episode, when Kramer is struggling to start the car you can see George, Elaine, and Jerry giggling. This is because the car was supposed to start but the fact that it died was so unnexpected that they couldn't hold it.

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Jerry: You know, I've been issued a public urination pass by the city because of my condition. Unfortunately, my little brother ran out of the house with it this morning. Him and his friends are probably peeing all over the place.

    • George: If I am not in front of my building at 6:15 when my parents get there, they are going to put me on an aggravation installment plan that will compound with interest for decades.

    • Jerry: (to George) You get within fifteen feet of that woman, she'd have her finger on the mace button.

    • George: I'm trying to live my life!

    • George: What's the difference? We'll all be dead eventually?
      Kramer: Does that bother you?
George: Yeah, it bothers me. Doesn't it bother you?
      Kramer: Not at all.
George: You see, now, that bothers me even more than dying bothers me, because it's people like you who live to be 120 because you're not bothered by it.

    • George: Unbelievable. I'm never gonna get outta here. Guy goes to pee, he never comes back. It's like a science-fiction story.

    • George: We're like rats in some experiment.

    • (Kramer is carrying an air conditioner box)
Jerry: Will you let me help you with that?
Kramer: I'm gonna put it down behind that car.
Jerry: Worried somebody's gonna pee on it?

    • Jerry: The problem with the mall garage is that everything looks the same. They try to differeriate between levels. They put up different colors, different numbers, different letters. What they need to do is name the levels, like, "Your mother's a whore." You would remember that.

    • Jerry: There's too much urinary freedom in this society.

    • George: I can't carry a pen, I'm afraid I'll puncture my scrotum.

    • George: Fish. What do they do?
      Elaine: What do you do?

    • Kramer: Purple 23, remember that.
George: Yeah, that I'm supposed to remember. Where the car is, that's insignificant.

    • Jerry: Why do I always have the feeling everyone's doing something better than me on Saturday afternoon?
Elaine: This is what people do.
Jerry: No they don't. They're out on picnics, cooking burgers, making out on blankets. Not in some mall in Jersey helping their friends find the world's cheapest air conditioner.

    • Jerry: I could get uromisitisis poisoning and die!

  • NOTES (8)

    • This is the first episode to be filmed without a studio audience.

However, the studio audience for "The Tape" episode was used as the laugh track for this episode. After the taping of "The Tape", the audience watched the recorded episode of "The Parking Garage" and the show recorded their laughter.

    • This episode received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

    • When Kramer finally puts the air conditioner into the cars trunk, he actually busts his lip on the box the way he falls in. He feels his lip and keeps the scene rolling never breaking character.

    • The garage is actually just one set which, with the use of clever camera angles and careful planning, simulates multiple levels and directions. Due to this, there are no lines to mark the parking spaces since it would take to long to have to remake the lines depending on where the cars are parked; the only case where lines are used is in the case of the luxury car, which is, of course, done to make the joke work. Additionally, mirrors were used to make the garage seem larger that it really is, in fact if you look closely at one of the first scenes you can make out the reflection of the gang.

    • The box Kramer carries around the garage is not empty. Michael Richards requested the prop manager to put an actual air conditioner in the box so he could work with the weight.

    • The episode ends with Kramer's car not starting, but in the original script the ending was supposed to be Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer getting in the car and then driving around in circles trying to find the exit to the mall. But when Michael Richards went to start the car it wouldn't start and they decided to end the show that way instead because it was funnier. If you watch the rest of the cast in the car you'll see them laughing when the car doesn't start because everyone was surprised by it.

    • The exterior shots of the parking garage are actually the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City, NJ. The interior shots of course are not. This mall is located at the foot of the Holland Tunnel, which connects New York City, NY and Jersey City, NJ.

    • Viewer Kyle Westphal notes that Kramer parks in Purple 23. This happens to be the 23rd episode. Another viewer, Kyle Matschke notes that Kramer put the air conditioner down in Purple 23 and Jerry peed in Yellow 14.
