  • Frank Serpico was a NYPD detective who fought a real war against corruption in the department during a time when it went as high as the commisioners desk.He was highly lauded and highly hated for his actions. The show is based on his true life heroics.moreless

The Book by Peter Maas was excellent, the movie with Al Pacino was better, but the show lost what it was actually about, his personal battle with corruption and inner demons, that drove the real man to leave the country. David Birney did a nice job in his portrayal of frank serpico, who using disguises to foil crimes and reporting to the one person who he trusted Lt. Sullivan, together they stamped out crime on a weekly basis. the show lasted almost one season with fifteen episodes being made. The Serpico story at the time was being made into different shows and story lines, namely Toma, Baretta were a couple, and the police action shows were born, and thus over done. But the story of Frank Serpico should be well kept as a legacy to courage and dedication to duty.moreless
