Servants

Show Summary

Servants is bold and irreverent, written by Lucy Gannon who's known for such TV hits as Soldier, Soldier, Bramwell, Hope and Glory and Insiders. Set below stairs in a country house in 1850s England, the drama focuses on the ambitions of the servants who make the household work.

  • This is an interesting show with likeable characters. I loved the realistic historical setting, but would have liked more character development and more connection between episodes. At times the characters did not seem to even remember previous events.moreless

For an obvious and physical example: when that one servant was SO badly beaten up in the 5th episode,it would kind of have made sense for him to sport SOME bruises in the following episode. But absolutely everything about the serious events was already forgotten. Of course, we were not told how much time had passed, but it did not seem to be THAT much.

Nevertheless, watching the last episode did make me want to see more of the lives of these people. It is a shame the series was axed. But at the same time I understand - Servants was well worth watching, but just a bit too mediocre to live.moreless
