Norman Stanley Fletcher is escorted to prison in Cumberland by two prison officers, the strict Mr Mackay and the soft-spoken Mr Barrowclough. It's his last chance to escape before being stuck in prison for five years.
Fletcher: Due to my lack of scholastic achievement I was unable to follow the professions I wanted, like stock brokering or teaching tennis at a girls' school. So, as I didn't fancy much working in the cardboard box factory, I robbed a sub-post office off the North Circular.
Barrowclough: And you've never looked back since.
Fletcher: No, nor have I ever been short of threepenny stamps.
