  • The intelligence, foresight and dedication of the Roebling family is given due treatment in this episode focusing on the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Brooklyn Bridge is as iconic to New York as the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and the World Trade Centre. The story of its inception and construction is detailed in this episode of Seven Wonders of the Industrial World. The documentary focuses on John and Emily Roebling as they struggle against discrimination, corrupt officials and distance as they push technology to new depths and heights. The genesis of the bridge lay with Washington Roebling however after an unexpected early death it was left to his son and later his wife to construct the bridge and deal with the problems associated with the practicalities of its construction. This episode gives justice to Emily who played an active role in co-ordinating the final stages of the construction when John became too ill. All the major players come alive with their well written dialogue and good acting, the sudden monologues may lead viewers to ask 'Who are they talking to?' – They are talking to YOU, so sit back and marvel at the dedication of the engineers and workers who gave us this industrial wonder: The Brooklyn Bridge.
