  • The Great Ship epitomises the high production values that set Seven Wonders of the Industrial World far and above most other documentaries.

The producers have taken the time to find good actors who not only inhabit their characters but look like them! This is also helped by an excellent script and good narration by Robert Lindsay. In bringing history to life the audience gets a great understanding of the values and attitudes of such a pivotal era in our modern history. The creation, life and fate of the Great Eastern is comprehensive and covers most well known incidents and even includes well know folklore. Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his engineering genius are also highlighted, although the focus is clearly on his final – doomed – project.

Sit back and enjoy the voyage and next time you consider taking a cruise, spare a thought for how far we have come.moreless
