I started watching Sex and the City to alleviate my Chris Noth withdrawal, not appeased by late-night reruns of Law and Order. I carried on watching Sex and the City because it captured so ruthlessly the rapacious delight the nearly married, the already married, and even the grotesquely unhappily married draw from the destruction of the never-marrieds' self-esteem. And I am still watching Sex and the City because I can never tell when an episode begins whether I am going to be driven to shoe-throwing violence by the self-obsessed, guy-dependant groveling of the Manhattan quartet or inspired to cheer their unflinching portrayal of human quirkiness and self-destructive risk-taking.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • In season 5 and most of season 6 Carrie has straight blonde hair, but in this episode her hair is dark with blonde highlights.

    • While she's having a picnic with Jeremy at the mental institution, Carrie's necklace's pendant keeps going up and down her cleavage when the camera changes angles.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Charlotte: You're marrying him!
Carrie: Will you stop? He doesn't even live in New York, he lives in Denver.
Charlotte: People move! It would be so romantic.
Carrie: Or tragic. Seriously. If I had the guy in high school, what have I been doing for the last twenty years?

    • Carrie: So maybe it won't look like you thought it would in high school, but it's important to remember that love is possible. Anything is possible. This is New York.

    • Charlotte: Did I ever tell you I was a cheerleader?
Miranda: No, because you knew I'd mock you endlessly.

    • Carrie: I wanted a man who'd commit, not a man who was committed. Apparently we have to be more specific.

    • Miranda: I just got Brady to sleep.
Dr. Robert Leeds: Do you sing to him?
Miranda: Only if he's been bad.

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • The episode title is a reference to the movie Girl, Interrupted, starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie. The movie was based on a novel of the same name by Susanna Kaysen describing her time in a mental institution.
