Episode Summary

EDIT
It's Charlotte's 36th Birthday but she doesn't really want to celebrate. Carrie, however, celebrates the "faux" birthday, by accompanying Miranda and Charlotte to join Samantha on her latest private jet trip with Richard to Atlantic City. Miranda wants to catch up on her sleep and read The New Yorker, and Samantha is busy keeping an eye on Richard's every move. Meanwhile, Charlotte is increasingly fearful that she's become an 'old maid'. To combat this rather frightning thought, she stuns the girls with her new racy, red lipstick look - a result of an Atlantic City style makeover. Carrie realizes people go to casinos for the same reason they go on blind dates - hoping to hit the jackpot, but wonders: If we know the house always wins, why gamble? Samantha's suspicions become unbearable as she watches the busty casino ladies show off their 'assets' to Richard - She tells Richard that she loves him but she loves herself more. She leaves behind the mega diamond ring and the pearl thong he just gave her and walks out the door. Sitting on the boardwalk and watching a happy couple taking in the sunset, Carrie realizes that she's hiding in her friends and that perhaps there are things worth gambling on.moreless

  • I just love Samantha...

    9.8
I especially like this episode because I saw Samantha dumped Richard. She certainly made the hardest decision knowing that she was in love with him but what made it more impressive was that despite of all that, she made up her mind, broke up with him and the best scene ever, she returned the mega diamond ring and pearl thong that he gave to her. She may be slutty, well God knows how many times but she was undeniably amazing that time. She knew it would be very painful but she didn't care knowing that she would be hurt more if she stayed in the relationship longer. She's really intelligent and what I most like about her was that she knows when to use her brains over her heart or say over her vagina. Hehehe... That's my girl!!!moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • At the very beginning of this episode while waiting at the bar for her date, Carrie mentions that this is her first blind date in a decade. But in fact, in "The Freak Show" episode of Season 2, Carrie says that she is optimistic that all men are not freaks so she ventures out on three blind dates.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Miranda: I can't go. I'm just...not ready to be separated from the baby.
      Carrie: What???
Miranda: I'm kidding! Steve took him two hours ago. I'm free, I'm free!!

    • Carrie: How many guys do we ever hit it off with? Very few, and even if we do, those relationships don't last, and even if they did, men die first, so we're right back where we started.

    • (Charlotte walks into the room in a very revealing dress)
Miranda: Charlotte, are you in there?
Carrie: No, but I think Harlot is.

    • Samantha: Who picked this breast-aurant?
Carrie: Cleavage is big here, it's part of the regional charm.

    • (After Carrie says she'll never go on a blind date again)
Miranda: That's what I said yesterday about eating bread, and I just ordered pancakes.

    • (Responding to a drunk guy who said Miranda had a fat ass)
Samantha: For your information, her ass is fat because she just had a baby! What's your excuse?
      Carrie: Yeah, you having triplets?

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Luck Be An Old Lady

The title of this episode refers to the song "Luck Be A Lady" from the musical "Guys & Dolls".

    • When Miranda opens the door for Carrie, Carrie sings a few lines of "Under The Boardwalk," a 1964 song by The Drifters. The song is about summer romance and having fun at the beach.
