In the scene where Samantha tells Carrie she's not coming to her party, check out the tube of cream Samantha is using on her face. You can clearly see it's the same color as the color of her skin. So she's actually applying the color, not trying to remove it! When the scene shifts to Carrie and back again to Samantha all the color on the tube is gone!
