Ben was offered a role in in Romeo and Juliet with the Royal Shakespeare Company on the same day he was given his job on Shameless. He claims turning the stage role down to play girlfriend-beater Joe Pritchard was an easy decision to make because he thought Shameless was "the best show on TV".
Previously, the former rugby player had played one-off parts in Lewis, Casualty, and Wire in the Blood.
After graduating from Salford University with a first class degree in performing arts Jo went on to appear in The Street, Cole Blood, and Scallywagga.
Her longest, and most recognisable, role is as easygoing nurse Maxine Donnelly in Shameless.

She is the eldest of three children. Her mother is an art teacher and painter, and her father is a car parts salesman. She went to Trinity College at Dublin University, where she studied the History of Art, and English Literature. She began acting at school and continued it at University. Married Richard Cooke on the 7 September 1997.
