According to Frank, Monica, his wife, left the family when the youngest (assuming Liam) was 2 months old and Fiona was 14 years old. Seeing that Liam is presently around 2 years old, Monica left about two years ago. This wouldn't make sense since Fiona is now 21 (age identified in the episode "Killer Carl").
