  • Excellent show going down hill

Shameless was one of the best . shows I had ever watched. However I was very disappointed when Jimmy/Steve was no longer on the show as well as Mickey. Debbie who was cute and sensitive when she was young has turned into a very annoying and unattractive character. I wish they would get rid of her somehow. If I wanted to see ugly people like her I would just go to my local Wal-Mart. PLEASE REMOVE DEBBIE off the show and make it interesting again.
  • Kill frank

I hope when Frank was thrown off the bridge that he drowns and dies and they have finally killed him off I can't stand him he's not worth the breath that he takes and what he said to Fiona at her wedding was unforgivable horrible and disgusting throwing him off The bridge was far too easy and you know he's going to survive.
  • Racist and Disrespectful Sexual References Minimizing the Terror of Chattel Slavery

'Shameless' makes disgusting sexual references that minimize the anguish, including the countless rapes that Black people suffered during hundreds of years of chattel slavery. Yet, most people don't even mention, let alone consider the level of disrespect (or possibly, simple indifference) that the writer would have to possess for Blacks slaves, and their horrific experiences. Even though the writer has little respect for boundaries, some things should simply be off limits; and reducing the pain and suffering that a population of people (men, women, and children) have actually experienced during centuries of slavery is one of those things. If the writer had minimized and glorified what Jewish people experienced during the decade plus long holocaust (which would also be disgusting), there'd be more of a backlash. However, we all know the writer would never get away with something like that (any Jewish reference would be very minor and significantly less insulting). The fact that the writer is comfortable turning such an evil and painful part of American history (hundreds of years of slavery) into insignificant perverted sexual "fantasies" is beyond reprehensible.
  • This remake is a carbon copy of the British Channel 4 program. Characters, scenes and script have all been replicated for an American audience. While this may seem like a good idea, it falls short of delivering the raw, gritty presentation of the original

The main problem with copying the original, is that life in a council estate in the UK and Ireland does not have a direct equivalent in America. I suppose it would be like white trash people living in the projects, surrounded by a life of minor petty crime and drug taking. The kids are usually educated but unlikely to head off to university/college. Most families are on welfare and live a tough life. However, unlike the segregation in America, the community is usually mixed race; primarily white, black and Asian.

I am a massive fan of the British series. Its characters are very convincing and the actors were probably chosen because of similar upbringings. It makes the show believable. Unfortunately with the remake it seems as though the actors have been chosen for having a similar resemblance to the original actors; rather than being able to play the character convincingly. That's not to say that all of the actors are bad or talentless, I just find that most of the time I don't believe the person on screen is who they say they are. William H. Macy is a prime example of this. A fantastic actor in his own right, but only chosen for the role because he will draw in viewers. In reality he's an awful choice for the role of Frank Gallagher. His voice is way too clean cut for a character who is essentially a lifelong alcoholic, pill popping, piece of white trash. By this stage in his life, much like the original character, his speech should be reduced to a series of incoherent, slurred, mumbles. Instead we get an unconvincing character who speaks with clarity one minute and passes out on the floor the next; it just doesn't work.

Towards the end of the pilot episode I remember seeing Emmy Rossum (Fiona) rolling a joint. It really detracted from the scene because she had obviously never had to do it before. It looked like a windsock that practically fell apart as soon as she lit it. I even laughed when she passed it to Macy, who did a double-take because it wasn't even lighting anymore. Now it may seem like nitpicking, but I'm supposed to be viewing a character who has been exposed to this lifestyle for pretty much all her life. I find it hard to believe somebody like this hasn't had much practice rolling joints. The acting for the most part is delivered well, but I still feel it would be much better if the creators had chosen more suitable actors rather than focusing on looks. I'm somewhat bemused as to why they felt the need to cast actors with a resemblance to the original characters and then replace some with black actors just to be politically correct; it makes no sense. Aside from a slight language barrier, there really was no reason why this show needed to be remade. The original was excellent just the way it was and I have no doubt that a huge portion of the American audience would enjoy seeing a real-to-life comedy drama rather than something which has been dumbed down to suit a broader audience. In fact, Americans should be offended by Shameless; not because of the show's content but because the writers decided that people in North America are not intelligent enough to understand accents and references outside their own country. I just find that the magic of the original has been lost in translation. It's certainly a shame...but it's just not Shameless.
  • Shameless US or UK

I have literally watched every episode of the UK version of Shameless and though many of the seasons have been brillaint, the newer seasons have been missing the gritty edge and inticing storylines it once had.

I never expected to like the US version however as in my mind the characters could never be replaced by other actors. Although the man who plays Frank in my terms completely kills the character of Frank they are many good things about this re-make. The actress who plays Fiona is so much better than the originial and really makes the show, let's hope her character stays in longer than in the uk show. Other chracters which have been potrayed brillaintly are Veronica and kevin, in the UK show I never really liked or got them but the actress and actor behind the US make their characters far more interesting and Sheila is just as amazing in the US as the UK really hard to decide which actress plays her better to be honest.

However such characters as: Karen, Debbie, Carl, Lip, Ian, Monica, Monica's lesbian lover who I can't quite remember the name and the Macguire family wannabe's are just plain awful. Lip plays an unbelieveable womaniser in the show which is far from Jody Latham's potrayal, Debbie is just far too plain and Karen is just a shipwreck.

  • as crazy as it gets

cant wait to see what happens between between lip and the new girl toria/victoria that's lurking lusciously after him......... *thinkingoutloud
  • Awesome!

Just started to watch this bc of a friend's recommendation and at first I thought of it as another drama series which I'm not really in the mood for but after watching the pilot episode, I'm hooked!
  • Really?! Political?

I love this show. It's one of my favorites and have watched from the beginning. Do you really have to bring in personal political lines in this script. I already see it on every other show and commercial. I'm not a hateful person and not asking for conflict but the episode when the little cousin chucky reads his report in class about his thoughts on Hitler, (which I am not a fan of at all) and frank just has to say, "ok, my little trump". Really!? Political? Just couldn't hold it in. Your ratings are already great. I'm really debating on not watching anymore. "SHAMELESS"!!
  • Can't talk - Bingeing on Shameless

Great show, yeah, it is over the top with some of the truly shameless things going on, but what a ride.
  • Brilliant

This show is great! No idea how I've only just come across it, but now time to catch up!
  • How messed up must these writers be?

I love how they keep on coming up with these mindboggling story lines!! Keep it up shameless, you have a fan in me!
  • Shameless - yeah, white trash exists

This show is something perfect for me as a viewer. Never seen the original version, but this Showtime version is wonderfully engaging and a total guilty pleasure. All these actors shine in their roles but let's just say William H. Macy, Joan Cusack and Ms. Louise Fletcher shine a little bit more. Another great thing about this are the short seasons containing of only 12 episodes. This was w hit :-) 9,0/10.
  • I concur; kill frank.

Please get rid of frank; super annoying (I even fast-forward when it shows him). The show would be a perfect 10 w/o him
  • In love with season 7!

I'm basically obsessed with shameless to begin with but the latest season has just brought up so much character/story developing elements that really shake it up! I love this show because it is so raw and just shameless! It shows you the story of a crazy family in Chicago in such a unique way, nothing is off the table here. What i love most about the show is, that it makes me feel. you develop such an empathy for the characters and real, unglamorous emotions play a very big role in this show, which makes it so unique.
  • Perfect Mix of Drama, Comedy and Suspense

This show has it all. You will find yourself so attached to each of the characters because the writers really do a great job of getting us to care about this Gallagher family. It's just a feel good show about perseverance and the bond of a family. Very underrated show that is just fun to watch, takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions; from laughter to tears to sitting on the edge of your seat.
  • Shamelessly Sweet!

Love this show. I just happened to come across it on On Demand and watched Seasons 1-3. Wow this show makes me realize my life is boring compared to theirs. lol
  • the sins of my caretaker

I find it hard to pick just one episode but this one has to be one of my facorites. I need the show to come back on. I would actually wake up in the middle of the night just to watch the new episode.
  • MACY & RAW

Alright just take a second and forget about the original. It's not all about living up to it and exact adaptation of the British characters. The underlying objective is to realistically portray the situation a big family gets into when they're without parents & resources in suburban America. The trademark Gallagher toughness and unique head on methodology of dealing with any difficulties, no matter how fucked up it is. That is what this show sells and we willingly buy it because of the right casting of the main characters. They deliver in every shows. Its only up to the writers on how this show is carried forward.

P.S: Kev & V's simply twisted foster child was really unnecessary for the show.

  • Shameless Addicts

Shameless is right up there with Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy! The whole family has a huge girl crush on Emmy Rossum. Wasn't quite sure about Mickey's character to begin with, but has one all of us over, he's just soo loveable. However when is someone going to put us out of our misery and get rid of Sammy!!!!!!
  • SHAMLESS is speachless

this show is amazing weirdest family ever yet they're awesome

i love ian and mickey they are so cute together :'(

This show is unbelievably amazing... season 4 was so incredibly heart-wrenching with Frank and Fiona's characters. The part where Kev and a couple other bar-dudes come over to Sheila's house and brought the "Alibi" Bar to Frank because he was too ill to leave the house... that part where Kev pours him a non-alcoholic beer and Frank starts laughing and crying... that part was one of the most emotional experiences I've had with a TV show... just beautiful.
  • MY life....

Feels like its on hold since that last episode...

Ian and Mickey are finally together!!!!!! YAAAAYY!!! But now sadly Ian is possibly bipolar. I can not believe they would leave us hanging with that! Carl soul mate is gone. On top of everything Jimmy/Steve/Jack is back!! I cant wait for next season!

Mickey finally fighting for Ian and taking care of him. Lip possibly getting back with or at least helping Mandy while hes finally living the good life. Jimmy/Steve/Jack and whatever shit storm he brings with him this time. Franks back to his old tricks. Carl will be dealing with his broken heart. Debbie is still obsessed with that older guy. Liam growing up with his possible brain damage. I just cant wait to see what the Gallaghers have in store.
  • How the hell am i gonna last 8 months without this show!

Biggest cliffhanger ever! I knew jimmysteve would be back! OMG. Cant wait for franks next drunk rant!! alot going on this season. Sad not to see the summervacation stuff. Iceweedtruck. LOL
  • Love it !

This is like watching Family Guy with real people. They are ruthless, funny and totaly shameless and yet they stick together ! Love the Characters too...
  • Perfect

    Need i say more? :)
  • Funny, gritty, and completely shameless.

Simply put; Shameless is a great show. I never really took to the British version (despite being British myself) but was coerced by a friend to start watching the American adaption - and I am so glad that I did. It's a brilliant portrayal of the lower class American family. With the brilliant William H. Macy playing the hilarious alcoholic patriarch Frank, and Emmy Rossum as the fearless and beautiful Fiona, the other characters are brilliantly cast from the rest of the Gallagher troupe to the kinky next door neighbors Veronica and Kevin. The storylines are shamless and gritty (I understand episodes in the first season are adaptions of the first two British seasons) and the actors are great in their roles. Would highly recommend to anyone.
