  • Well done, Shameless

S3 Ep12: "Survival of the Fittest". Definitely one of the best episodes of an overall strong season in which we get to see just a little more of all the dysfunctional relationships we're used to but also how much they all truly love each other. (Spoilers) Lip graduating from high school and being accepted into MIT, Ian enlisting in the army and saying goodbye to a clearly but reluctantly heartbroken Mickey whose usual inability to express his love is again displayed as one of his greatest downfalls and the affection shown by an otherwise indifferent and, frankly, violent Carl for his sick father by shaving his head in order to "let the sunshine heal him" the way it'd cured Carl's "cancer", allowing us to witness a truly kind act performed by Frank, whose character development became apparent in this season but still managed to deliver a sucker punch to the audience.

The finale was definitely as emotional as can be whilst wrapping up some of the ever expanding storylines involving increasingly uninteresting and some truly annoying characters - I'm looking at you, Karen - effectively and letting us experience once again the all encompassing love between the characters. Well done, Shameless, well done.
  • Great episode

A brilliant season finale, though I have yet to come across an episode of Shameless that I haven't enjoyed. The scenes with Ian and Mickey were perfectly executed, and the part where Carl shaved Frank's head in an attempt to benefit his health was brilliant. Can't wait for next season.
  • Survival of the Fittest

The season finale was solid and fitting, but not quite great like we know this show is capable of. I also did not like how they had every single person going off in a different direction when we know next season they will really have to reach to bring them back together.
  • A series finale of a different kind!

I expected the series finale to be wilder and more unpredictable, maybe with Steve showing up running away from the Brazilian gangsters. However, it turned out to be more of a character centered espisode, focusing over big parts on Frank and Lip's day out. It worked very well for me and the show managed to give us some nice intimate scenes between characters of the wider Gallagher friends' circle closing a lot of storylines from this season.

As was already the case in the two previous season finale it also left the viewer rather sad because so many members seemed to be leaving the show for good. Karen and the Baby, Steve probably watching them from above now. Lip also moving on maybe even to MIT and Ian who's off to the military, Frank wandering to yet another neighbouring country (oh wait the US only has landborders with two nations) everything seemed to break apart around Fiona and that is of course sad. This is in no way to say that the season finale was bad because of it, it may well have been the best out of all because it often happens to us that all of a sudden everything changes and family and friends that used to belong to ones live disperse. And there is not much we can do about it. That's how life works and what I like about this show.

In any case before I get totally drifted away I'm sure to see at least Frank, Lip and Ian back in season 4 one way or the other and more funny moments await. I can't wait to see what happens next. :)
