  • Goes to show we must be careful who we should trust.

At first, it seemed just another high-profile case. This time involving doping. A journalist is killed and because she had recently visited a prison where a doping-relating guy was serving time they suspected a manager was involved and forensics expert Dr. Laura Fields even confirms that. Later it's revealed the journalist was indeed visiting another guy, who claims to be framed and it turns out Dr. Fields has an habit of tampering with evidence so the guy believed to be guilty will be convicted and she's the one who murdered the journalist. But this isn't over yet. Dr. Fields claims to be pressured by Jessica Devlin. Given her reputation in "Deja Vu All Over Again", I didn't completely doubt that. The confrontation between the two women at the end was the cherry on the top.moreless
  • Jessica's past in questioned

    9.1
Great episode. What was great about the original series - the main character(s) in conflict with tangible threat to their careers or personal safety.

This time its Jessica (Jeri Ryan). The beginning scene is good, clearly stating whats happened and building up to the middle act. It expertly shoves our expectations into forming the wrong conclusions about what is about to happen.

We jump into the action pretty quickly as the first suspect smashes Isaac and a couple of cops. As youd probably guess hes not the right culprit and we get an early twist as we discover that everything is not right with the coroner.

Queue the establishment of Jessica's relationship with the coroner. For once (in what seems a while) the court case actually adds to the drama and in a intense way, as Jessica's honor is called into question. She hold her own long enough so that a brilliant piece of bluffing by Shark convinces the defence to accept a deal.

The predictable soulsearching ending though could have been avoided. Maybe for once, the person being sent to jail could scream blue murder and demand vengence!

Alas, PC seems to be driving alot of TV nowadays. Anyways, the 2nd part of the ending is we seen the Sharks ex-wife returning to the fold - which personally I hope is a good thing and the season explores more of the complex character beneath the hard cold callous exterior of our heroic lawyer! Sadly it would seem that it probably wont!moreless
  • Superb!

    10
'Dr. Laura' is definitely one of the best episodes of season 2, in fact the whole series. It's not only because the spotlight on Jessica explores her character but because it gives lots of room for character development for others too. Even if the ending is obviously a "happy" one, the fact that it was a very narrow win (well, deal) lingers. I didn't expect Laura to be the murderer at all so that was a nice twist. It's unfortunate to have poor Jess lose yet another close friend. Jeri Ryan was superb and some of her looks spoke volumes, more than what words could have said. Jessica vs Cutler was a classic moment, I love whenever those two (or Cutler against Stark) go against each other. It was also great to have the episode end with Jessica leaving Laura and that last exchange between them was the result of great writing, just like the whole ep.moreless
  • What an episode!!

    9.9
I was so excited when I found out about this episode. I was totally ready for some Jessica tension and I was not let down.

The episode was full of twists and turns. Once again BRAVO to Jeri Ryan for playing Jessica Devlin in a flawless and superb manner. I really liked at the beginning how it showed Jessica being friendly with Dr. Laura and then everything going downhill from there.

Jessica's interaction with Leo was also great. She was about to rip his head off! Also I loved Stark at the end with the defense attorney and threatening him for going after Jessica. The writers did a great job at the end with Jessica and Laura in the jail. You lamost understood where Laura was coming from, but then Jessica's closing statement of, "Not enough to become one," summed everything up. GREAT JOB!moreless
  • Finally Jeri Ryan shines!

    8.4
After being pushed in the background much of the time. We see Jeri Ryan's character take center stage. As she gets accused of tampering with evidence. But the real culprit happens to be a medical examiner who really has it in for Ryan. And that Ryan could lose her job and possibly her freedom during all of this. But leave it to Shark indeed. As he does come through and shows his very tough side coming out. James Woods is one of the best underrated actors in the business. But Shark is really him. That you forget that it is an actor, and not the real thing that are on here.moreless
