The original pilot for this series was shot back in 2008 to air on the cable network Showcase. It was written by Rick Drew, directed by Bobby Roth, and the concept differed considerably.
The main character was called Kyle Lodgins, a police detective who had already lost wife and child. His alter egos were played by three different actors, namely Colin Cunningham, Quinn Lord, and Chad Krowchuk. Now, Callum Keith Rennie plays the facets of his personality himself, Camille Sullivan replaces Laura Jordan as the female lead, and Molly Parker is brought in as Ben's wife. -
Callum Keith Rennie was shooting the recurring role of Lew Ashby in Californication when he was offered the lead role in Shattered in Summer 2008. It's his first lead role in a tv series and he turned to David Duchovny for advice on that.
