Episode Summary

The Sorceress sends He-Man on an urgent mission to the world of Etheria, where an evil organization called the Horde reigns. She gives him a sword which looks exactly like his except that it has a jewel in the center, and she tells him he must find the owner, whose identity she cannot reveal. On Etheria, He-Man is attacked by the Horde's ruthless force captain, Adora, but is shocked when the sword glows in her presence. Can she really be the owner of the sword, when she is serving evil?moreless

  • The Sorceress sends Adam with the Sword of Protection on a quest to find the one who was meant to wield the sword. On Etheria, Adam befriends the Great Rebellion, and He-man helps them save a village from a Horde attack.moreless

    In comparison to the first He-man episode ("Diamond Ray of Disappearance") this episode is astronomically better. Every main character is introduced, save for She-ra, and is given ample screen time. The action is exciting and the storyline is quite solid. Adam demonstrates unusual courage in this episode, for he is usually expected either to run and become He-man or try to fight and lose. It's not markedly bad that She-ra doesn't appear in this episode. The fight between He-man and the Rebellion and the Horde makes up for that. Adora does appear toward the end of the episode. This episode introduces the story quite well. It leaves the viewers, at least those who now nothing about the show, wondering who the characters are and why there is a rebellion. There are a few irksome moments, as when Adam rides with Bow on Arrow.moreless

    • When Battlecat caught He-Man's Sword of Power in his mouth after He-Man had thrown it to disarm Adora, Battlecat was not shown holding it in his mouth in the next episode, Beast Island. Edit
    • In the shot where He-Man throws his sword to disarm Adora, another sword, which turns out to be the Sword of Protection, is visible in his scabard. He was never shown to be carrying both swords in his scabbard before. Edit
    • When Adam puts the Sword of Protection onto his back just before he travels through the portal to Etheria, the hilt is still sticking out. It is no longer visible in any subsequent shots of Adam. Edit

    • The first three episodes of the series feature an introducton that does not include Adora or explain her connection to She-Ra. Furthermore, neither this episode nor the next feature the titular heroine. Edit
    • This is the first episode of a 5-parter which sets the scene for the series. The story is continued in the next episode. These 5 episodes were later condensed together to form the feature film "The Secret of the Sword". Edit
