Sherlock Holmes & The Leading Lady is a 1992 TV movie in which Holmes romps through the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in pursuit of a lost detonator. Nearing retirement, he battles old age as well as a variety of enemies. While carrying out his mission, Holmes also reunites with his proclaimed dream woman, Irene Adler (Morgan Fairchild). Their romantic subplot brings a human quality to the cold and analytical atmosphere of Sherlock Holmes. The ever-present Dr. Watson (Patrick Macnee) assists and supports Holmes as fans have come to expect. Sigmund Freud (John Bennett) and a variety of other historically accurate characters are also woven in to lend an authentic credibility to the film. This plot is not based on a Sherlock Holmes novel, but is instead an original screenplay. As always, Christopher Lee offers a fantastic portrayal of Holmes and captures the slightest details that makes his character believable. The film runs 3 hours.
