Shock Treatment

Show Summary

Shock Treatment is all about fear. Real fear. And about how real people try to deal with it, in their own individual way. In each show four members of the public have volunteered to spend 48 hours in a secret location, and undergo experiments designed to scare them. That's all they know. What they don't know is that they're going to a disused mental asylum, a Victorian horror full of damp and peeling corridors. That they're going to be kept apart from each other, locked in foul cells with no daylight, no watches and no one to talk to except masked figures in chemical suits who never talk back. All this is designed to unsettle them, to create an environment of confusion, uncertainty and stress. So that when the experiments begin, they are already on edge, already prepared to accept house rules. The rules of a madhouse. Each experiment explores a different type of fear. The fear of violence, of the dark, of disgust and creepy crawlies, of pain and of inflicting pain on others. Shock Treatment uses a cast of actors and specialists, from the genial fake psychologist Dr. Templeton to fire-eaters and stuntmen, to convince our volunteers that they are really facing their worst fears.moreless
