    Host (1993-present)

Cindy Rhodes first appeared on Sidewalks in 1993 and has stayed with the show since then.
The former Central Illinois resident has the honor of interviewing most of the celebrities that appeared on the show, such as basketball player Shaquille O'Neal; singers Josh Groban, The Judds, Donny and Marie Osmond, Phil Collins, Chris Isaak, Alessandro Safina, Sara Evans, Natalie Imbruglia, Montell Jordan, Sandi Patty, James Brown, Neil Finn, James Darren, John Hiatt; actresses Debbie Reynolds, Gloria Stuart ("Titanic"), Catherine Bell (JAG), Kathy Najimy ("Sister Act"), Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint (Any Day Now), Connie Sellecca, Emma Samms (General Hospital), Donna Mills, Tia and Tamera Mowry (Sister Sister); actors Bill Paxton, Bob Saget, Rob Schneider, Shaun Cassidy, Bruce Greenwood; supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Molly Sims; newswoman Maria Shriver (Dateline NBC); TV host Robin Leach, Meredith Vieria and Joy Behar (The View); musician John Tesh, and authors Jackie Collins, Sandra Brown, Sidney Sheldon, and Judith Krantz.
According to executive producer Richard R. Lee, "If there's a celebrity interview on the show, Cindy is usually the one with the microphone. She can handle all-types of interviews. When Cindy hosted our Bay Area Music Award Special, she showed she can interview a blues singer one minute and a heavy metal rock band the next. Not many hosts have the ability to control and handle diverse interviews as well as Cindy can. We are very lucky to have her."
Besides being the show's longest personality, Cindy is also one of the producers and co-owner of the Sidewalks project.
Outside of the show, she has hosted Bay Area Journal: Earth Day, Cinco de Mayo '98 and '99, Festival by the Bay Highlights 2000, and The Multicultural Festival for station KCRT-TV. In May of 1999, Cindy (along with Richard) was a host for "Sister Cities," a celebration for the cities of Richmond and El Cerrito.

  • Rafael Siegel

    Host (1994-95, 2003-present)

Former on-air host returns to Sidewalks as an East Coast correspondent. Sidewalks Entertainment Television is happy to announce that one-time personality Rafael Siegel is back on our current team. The then-Rafael Hernandez, who is now using his real last name professionally, joined the show in 1994 as a production crew member, but quickly put his face in front of the camera. He soon became one of the several on-air personalities, after appearing briefly in some episodes and his own remote segment called "Street Beat," where he did "man-on-the-street interviews." "Rafael was a different personality for Sidewalks at that time," says Richard R. Lee, the executive producer of the long-running cable series. "He brought to Sidewalks a 'hip' side, where the other hosts, like personality Cindy Rhodes, were more straight forward. Unfortunately, for Rafael and Sidewalks, the series ended its original run." (The studio where Sidewalks was produced at changed its weekly production policies, which forced the entertainment series and several other programs to fold; since then, Sidewalks' production schedule has been taped on an irregular basis.) "We never got to explore Rafael's true potential. If the show didn't disappear briefly in 1995, I believe Rafael would have become one of the main hosts, along side Cindy Rhodes. I'm glad we are getting another opportunity to work with Rafael." Following his appearance on Sidewalks, Rafael went on to other "entertaining" properties. He interned with Paramount's Entertainment Tonight, appeared on TV shows like Sony Pictures Television's The Ricki Lake Show and MTV's Who Knows The Band, and created and performed in his own boy band called U-N-I. When he moved east, he choreographed and background dance for a Delaware pop group. Additionally, Rafael has been announcing for several minor league hockey and baseball teams, including Delmarva Shorebirds (single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles), Sacramento Rivercats (triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's), and Philadelphia Phantoms (minor league team for hockey's Philadelphia Flyers). Now living permanently on the east coast (Sidewalks is produced on the west coast in the San Francisco Bay Area), Rafael is doing interviews and comedy bits from the Atlantic Ocean side. Since returning to the show, Rafael has interviewed R&B singer Heather Headley, hip hop master Wyclef Jean, Kelis, rock band Adema, and rap performers Gang Star, 24K, Rosco P. Coldchain, and Youngbloodz.moreless
  • Richard R. Lee

    Host (1998-present)

Sidewalks' creator and executive producer Richard R. Lee becomes an unexpected on-air personality. Actually, if the truth is to be known, Richard, who was born in San Francisco, always wanted to co-host his beloved talk/variety series, but his creative talents as producer, director and editor were strongly needed behind-the-scenes. Richard made several cameo appearances on Sidewalks, but never in a regular hosting position until the 9th season after he and co-host Cindy Rhodes anchored a Sidewalks Mini-Christmas Special together. After doing more episodes the following year, the two found they had good chemistry together in front of the camera, and soon, Richard became Cindy's regular on-air partner. "Hosting Sidewalks or any other TV projects was never in my plan. I'm enjoying the experience," he says on his first time hosting. "I'm planning to do more on-air work in the future with the next phase of Sidewalks." Richard's other on-air appearances, outside of Sidewalks, were KCRT Television's NewsReel series, Update Special: 2002 Olympic Torch Relay, Festival by the Bay Highlights, 2001 Election Night Results, and the live productions of Juneteenth and Cinco de Mayo '98, '99 and 2000 celebration specials. In May of 1999, Richard and Cindy Rhodes were the MCs for Richmond's and El Cerrito's "Sister Cities" multicultural festival. Besides directing Sidewalks, Richard is the director for The Languages of Sound and Movement (an award-winning cultural arts and dance program), Monk King Productions' West County High School Football and Basketball specials, and a number of episodes of a locally-produced talk show entitled Anaya. Additionally, Richard is an occasional director for various Contra Costa Television's (CCTV) programs, including the medical advice series, Ask The Doctor. Richard has also worked at several broadcast and cable stations in the San Francisco Bay Area, including KTVU (Fox), KRCB (PBS) and KCRT (Ind.).moreless

Mel Menefee has been an entertainer all his life. He and his brothers were part of the world of vaudeville. "Mel is a singer, a dancer, an artist, a tap dance instructor, and one of the most memorable personalities we will ever have in any present or future 'Sidewalks'-related series," says executive producer Richard R. Lee. "The character of 'Mel Menefee' on the show, who likes to create mischief for the hosts and crew, is what defined the comedic elements for 'Sidewalks.' In real life, Mel is just like the character, but, of course, he doesn't create that much trouble. He has a personality that you will instantly fall in love with. I can only imagine how boring 'Sidewalks' would have been if there was never a Mel Menefee on the show." Mel was an original crewmember when the show first went in production in 1988. He was a production assistant/camera operator until he made a surprise guest appearance on the third episode. After that, Mel regularly appeared as a co-host and a comedic foil for the other hosts. "He did everything on the show," Richard adds. "It would take days to talk about all the comedic bits we did with him. His most memorable bit was when we centered one entire show on him. He dreamed throughout the episode that he had his own late-night talk show called 'The Mel Menefee Show.' Another crewmember and I went all out in set and sound effects to pull this scenario around Mel. Mel did a perfect job as a Johnny Carson-type host sitting behind the desk and all. But, the best part of the show, beyond the talk show bit, was our spotlighting of his creative side as an artist, a singer, and as a tap dance instructor (his group of energetic seniors tap danced on the show). To me, Mel should have been known to the world as another Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. I was so fortunate to get a talent like his on our little TV show." Mel left the show in 1994 (for reasons still unknown), but popped up during one of the "Sidewalks Holiday Toy Guide Specials" with Dee Jones.moreless
  • Dee Jones

    Host (1990-1993, 1998)

    0.0
Longtime favorite is making appearances on "Sidewalks Entertainment Television" and continues to entertain on tour. For the old "Sidewalks" viewers, she is best known as Denise Yvonne, but now she is back as Dee Jones (she changed the name during a successful post-"Sidewalks" singing career). The Chicago native has been in the industry for the last 20 years. She is an accomplished vocalist and actress, who has been in several plays and numerous bit parts in commercials, TV series, and movies, including ABC's Fortune Dane, "The Principle," and "The Presidio." Dee first appeared on the award-winning "Sidewalks" series in 1990, when co-host Mel Menefee wanted her as the replacement for a previous host that was leaving. Nicknamed "The Hostess with the Mostest," she brought quick wit, a bubbling personality, and energy to spare. "Dee is an entertainer," says executive producer Richard R. Lee. "She can sing, dance, and act. When you see Dee in action, you can feel the energy coming from her. She and Mel made a great pair. They both knew how to play off each other. When she left the show in 1993 to finish her college education, her departure created a void that we at Sidewalks haven't been able to fill when it came to successful duo hosting segments." Dee did return to make some appearances throughout the years, most notably on several of the "Sidewalks Holiday Toy Specials." Away from the show, she is still singing on stage. She and her husband have formed their own popular musical duo, "Dee and Jay." They have been featured with several San Francisco Bay Area bands including Simply the Best, James Gentleman Jims, and Power Play. Dee is making more appearances on "Sidewalks" in 2003. Additionally, Dee and Jay is going on the road as part of the ensemble team in "Barron Edward's Motortown and Mo' Music Revue." In the touring show that's making appearances in the Northern California area, Reno and Las Vegas, Dee and Jay are playing and performing as Tina and Ike Turner.moreless

From Showtime: Throughout his career as a musician and actor, Chris Isaak has carved out a unique niche in American popular culture. As a musician, Chris' sly sense of humor and raw charisma have colored the popular songs he's written over the years and he's written some classics from moody ballads like "Wicked Game", to rockers like "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing". This talent has translated into a wall full of platinum albums and a loyal audience who back his shows, knowing they'll be treated to great songs, an inspired performance, and always a few surprises. As an actor, Chris has graduated from cameos to leading roles in films and mini-series. Now as the star of the SHOWTIME backstage series, The Chris Isaak Show, he's brought together the two parts of his career into a brilliant and entertaining whole. Chris, the youngest of three brothers, grew up in a working class neighborhood in Stockton, California. From an early age, he was a fan of a wide variety of music. After attending the University of the Pacific, he spent a year in Japan, studying, working part-time at a movie studio, and doing a little amateur boxing on the side. He didn't really consider a career in music until he was 20 and living in Tokyo. Inspired by Elvis Presley's Sun Sessions, Chris decided to try his hand at singing. He started out solo, working the club circuit in San Francisco, and soon formed an early version of his band Silvertone. The group was spotted by a producer (Erik Jacobsen) and offered a deal by Warner Brothers. Chris' first two records, 1985's Silvertone and 1987's Chris Isaak, earned critical acclaim and made fans of Madonna, John Fogerty, and Rickie Lee Jones, among other celebrities. Simultaneously, Chris was making waves outside of the music industry. He appeared in fashion spreads in magazines such as Elle and Esquire, and director Jonathan Demme cast him as "The Killer Clown" in his 1988 film, Married to the Mob. Chris also appeared in Let's Get Lost, Bruce Weber's 1988 documentary about jazz trumpeter/vocalist Chet Baker. In 1989, Chris scored his breakout single "Wicked Game". The song, a ballad that was featured on the double platinum album Heart Shaped World, was an international smash and was supported by a steamy video that featured Chris in a dreamy embrace with supermodel Helena Christensen. As he toured the world in support of Heart Shaped World, Chris' acting career was starting to take off. He earned a supporting role in Jonathan Demme's Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs, and co-starred in David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha. He appeared in films such as Tom Hanks' That Thing You Do, Alison Anders' Grace of My Heart, and, most recently, in director James Rowe's Blue Ridge Fall. On Television, he appeared in two episodes of the acclaimed cable mini-series From the Earth to the Moon, working with Hanks and Sally Field. He guest-starred on the hit series Friends, and he also developed a part-time gig as a roving correspondent for The Tonight Show, trading quips with Jay Leno from locations such as the Kentucky Derby and the Grammy Awards. Music, however, remains Chris' first love, a love that audiences around the world have come to share. The rootsy sounds of early albums such as 1985's Silvertone and 1987's Chris Isaak were followed in the 1990s by a string of exceptional albums, including 1993's cool and classic San Francisco Days; 1995's dramatic, sexy Forever Blue; 1996's Baja Sessions, which he describes as "an acoustic beach album", and 1998's Speak of the Devil, an adventurous collection that showed Chris' experimental side while showcasing his ability to craft classic songs. After completing the first season of The Chris Isaak Show, Chris returned to the recording studio with Silvertone to make his first studio album in three years. Always Got Tonight is scheduled to be in stores in February 2002 with the single from the CD, "Let Me Down Easy", coming out in January, simultaneous to the premiere of the show's much anticipated second season.moreless
  • Courtney Thorne-Smith

    9.2
Courtney Thorne-Smith has become one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses. After first gaining international attention on the phenomenal primetime soap opera, Melrose Place, she catapulted to further acclaim playing Georgia in Fox Television's Emmy-winning series, Ally McBeal. This fall, she returns to ABC's According to Jim, co-starring Jim Belushi and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Larry Joe Campbell.

Born in Mill Valley, California, Thorne-Smith first realized her love of acting while performing in her kindergarten production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. She was discovered in high school when 20th Century Fox was searching for a new face to play Charlie Sheen's girlfriend in their feature film, Lucas. Soon after, she was officially bitten by the acting bug; she canceled her plans to attend Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, moved to L.A. and has not looked back since.

Her combination of talent and beauty has enabled Thorne-Smith to build a long acting resume. Other film credits include featured roles in Summer School, Revenge of the Nerds II, Side Out, and Chairman of the Board. She has also starred in several theatrical productions, including Masking, Rainbow, Don't Be Cruel, and Sincerely Confused. But it is her substantial work on television that has produced her most notable recognition. She played Alison Parker for five seasons on Melrose Place, starred in the NBC series Day By Day and had a recurring role as Harry Hamlin's Laker Girl girlfriend on the hit series L.A. Law. She has also appeared in the series Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Anything But Love, and the television films Beauty's Revenge, Tour of Duty, First Flight -- with Beau Bridges -- "Infidelity," and made a guest appearance as the object of Norm Macdonald's desire on Norm.

When Thorne-Smith auditioned with Aaron Spelling for a series pilot about young doctors, Spelling was so impressed that he had six more projects sent to her doorstep the next day. The one that caught her eye was Melrose Place. For her portrayal as the constantly put-upon Alison, TV Guide praised her as "one of the standout stars of (the) glossy ensemble cast -- and the hottest cat ever to scratch and snarl on the sun-scorched roof of Melrose Place."

Thorne-Smith has also donned the hat of professional writer. Having started with a feature article in Self magazine, she has been a contributing editor for that publication and has also written for In and Allure magazines. Last year she was a spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, Race for the Cure. In support of the foundation, she appeared on the cover of "Special K," "Special K Red Berries," and "Smart Start" cereals.

Thorne-Smith currently resides in Los Angeles where she enjoys relaxing with her dogs, Norman and Ed. George. She spends her free time reading, working out and hanging out with friends.

Though she played a true-blue American Marine lawyer on CBS's J.A.G., Catherine Bell is actually London-born. When her parents, Peter, an architect, and Mina, a nurse, divorced when Catherine was a toddler, she and her mother settled in Los Angeles, California.

A self-described "geek," Bell thrived in math and biology in school.During junior high, sheonce programmed a computer video game. She entered UCLA with the intention of being a pre-med major, but in her sophomore year, found herself at a crossroads. Making a decision to take her life in a different direction, she began modeling in Japan. After four months, shefound the life damaging to her self-esteem and well-being.

Catherinereturned to Los Angeles with a new goal: to prove herself as an actress. She soon found herself cast in guest spots on shows like Hercules, Dream On, and Friends. But it was a three-line part on the military drama J.A.G. - on an episode in which her character was brutally murdered - that changed it all.

Several months after that guest spot, Bell heard that the producers of J.A.G. were looking for a new female lead for the show. So she crossed her fingers and wrote a letter to executive producer Donald P. Bellisario, declaring her suitability for the role of Maj. Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie.

Intrigued, Bellisario decided to take a gamble, and Bell won the part. Her chemistry with male lead David James Elliot, who plays Lt. Cmdr. Harmon "Harm" Rabb, ensured that the show, which had been struggling in the ratings, would thrive on a new network. J.A.G. now holds a steady position in Nielsen's Top 20.

Her role on J.A.G. allowed Bell to showcase her athletic skills - she's been kickboxing for over 10 years and knows her way around a shooting range. In her off-camera time, her tomboyish nature comes to the fore when she throws herself into snowboarding, riding motorcycles, wakeboarding, and other extreme sports. On May 8, 1994,Bellmarried actor Adam Beason.Together, they havea daughter Gemma, born April 16, 2003, and a son, Ronan, born August, 21, 2010. In October, 2011, the couple mutually separated after 17 years of marriage.
