Everyone wants to talk about True Detective right now, but HBO has a lot more going on than just really, really, really great drama. The network's promotional department kicked into overdrive this weekend, releasing not only a 15-minute preview of Game of Thrones Season 4, but the first trailers for new comedy Silicon Valley and Veep Season 3. All three shows will premiere their respective seasons on Sunday, April 6.
Let's start with the first look at Veep, which features Julia Louis-Dreyfus's Selina Meyer—who decided to run for president at the end of Season 2—fighting against some very obnoxious and patriotic balloons. As you do.
And now let's take a gander at the network's newest half-hour comedy, Silicon Valley, from Office Space's (and Beavis and Butt-head's!) Mike Judge. Loosely based on Judge's own experience as an engineer in the late '80s, the series follows a group of friends who are attempt to start their own company in the modern-day booming tech industry.
When Richard (Thomas Middleditch), an introverted computer programmer for a tech company, decides to launch a startup with his ramen-eating, social misfit friends Big Head (Josh Brener), Gilfoyle (Freaks and Geeks and Party Down's Martin Starr), and Dinesh (Franklin & Bash and Portlandia's Kumail Nanjiani), they end up caught in the middle of a bidding war between Richard's boss Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) and billionaire venture capitalist Peter Gregory (Christopher Evan Welch). TJ Miller, Zach Woods (Gabe from The Office), and Amanda Crew round out the cast.
Here's the first official teaser, featuring a healthy dose of immature comedy, including some dick jokes, because where would we be without dick jokes? Also, a grown man gets punched by a child!
Will you be checking out Silicon Valley? Do you think it's a good companion for Veep?
Veep and Silicon Valley premiere Sunday, April 6 at 10pm and 10:30pm, respectively, directly following the Season 4 premiere of Game of Thrones.
