Episode Summary

EDIT

When the street thief Sinbad inadvertently kills Lord Akbari's son, Akbari vows revenge and kills Sinbad's older brother, Jamil. Before he can be executed as well, Sinbad escapes and his grandmother curses him so that he can never stay on land for more than a single day at a time. Sinbad is forced to stow away on a cargo ship, the Providence, and is soon swept up on events beyond his control.

I wondered how this show would be after seeing SyFy would be airing it. I've been a fan of most BBC produced shows and after watching this first episode I think they did a decent job on it. The plot line for this pilot was good and obviously sets up the future of the show. The characters were well played and the special effects and real effects were well done. The BBC produced shows always seem to have good SFX. I was wondering about how good the show would be seeing that the BBC cancelled it after only one season but I guess I'll have to see how the season plays out to see if there was a reason for that. The BBC produced shows seem to have odd runs and often short runs but I would say this would have been worthy of a longer run based on this pilot.moreless
  • Not Sinbad but not Singood either

The first episode has set the stage for a show that certainly has promise. Rather than stick to a purely Arabian cast the producers have chosen to throw Sinbad in with a multi-ethnic crew that is perhaps improbable but nevertheless interesting. The stage was quickly set to throw Sinbad to sea and then somewhat easily puts a ship at his disposal. The effects were adequate nothing more but the city he came from felt real enough and the tile character is engaging. Time will tell but this is an interesting start that makes me want to see where they go with it.moreless
