David welcomed George Lopez by asking him about his childhood. George admits that his childhood in the San Fernando Valley was "brutal." His book is called "Why you crying" because that's what his grandmother would always ask him. Even if he had a very good reason for crying. He realized early on that telling stories about his grandmother made people laugh. He found that doing comedy routines about his childhood and the machismo of Mexican American males came naturally to him. George then talks about living in a nice neighborhood. The neighbors, the workmen, even George himself, can't believe he lives in such a nice neighborhood.
