      • Martin Short: (on being from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) When you grow up in Hamilton, Ontario, (which is like, it's kind of like Pittsburgh, it's a steel town) you can't imagine ever being in show business. It's just not, it's not conceivable. It's not like, you know, I have friends who grew up in Manhattan who are, you know, "One day I'm gonna go down that street and I'm gonna star in a Broadway show." Well, in Hamilton you're saying, "One day I'm gonna go down to the store and buy…a pop, and go...home." You know, the dreams are, they're smaller dreams.

      • Martin Short: When I was fourteen I had, I had an applause record, that I had made a loop from, "Sinatra at the Sands." And I had a reel-to-reel type [tape player], of course, and I had taken a big applause section and I looped it and looped it and looped it, and that became my loop for my own imaginary TV show that I had.

      • David: Do you remember auditioning for my show? (The David Steinberg Show)
Martin Short: I do. I went up, and I remember I was, well, everyone wanted the show.
        David: Yes.
Martin Short: Everyone wanted to get the David Stienberg Show. You kind of immediately hired me.
David: Yeah. Yes, I was very…
Martin Short: And it was so exciting, I remember leaving, and…and that's when, of course, I did [an impersonation of] you for you and, being an actor you said, "Oh, he's a genius."

      • David: I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed this, this is just, has just been so much fun.
Martin Short: Well, I can't tell you how happy I was when you hired me.
