JJ is in love. But he thinks that the lovely Lara Lloyd is out of his league and lacks the courage to ask her out. After finally plucking up the courage, JJ realises that he's got to do it all by himself. Almost by himself anyway. But it's JJ's friends and family who are really messing things up.moreless
So JJ is in love, and just as with last season, it's shown to be the people around him who are the ones who need help and that JJ by being normal stands out as unusual. Aside from the lack of progression from last season, this was a really sweet episode and unlike other people on this site, I liked that it was firmly dedicated to JJ who has been deeply underused this season and unfortunately he's not the only one but I'll get to that in a minute. If you're going to do an episode that's grounded in normality and looking at how people behave, the ending completely ruined the tone it'd had done well to create. The episode deserved better than the Spandau Ballet ending which loses it half a point. Now the problem is there's simply no time left to explore JJ and Lara Lloyd. This is a story I'd really like to see more of but with only 2 episodes left there's no chance. Instead we'll be forced to suffer through the next Effy/Freddie boreathon, and if we're lucky, a resolution to the problems of Naomi and Emily who have saved Season 3 and 4 for me. Honestly this season being cut down to 8 episodes has killed it for me. There's been no time to properly address or resolve things over the course of the season and most of the actors deserve better, especially Lily Loveless and Lisa Backwell who didn't get their own episodes when they had the best episodes in Season 3. This season really has been screwed up.moreless
This may have been a filler episode but it was a brilliant one. After my second viewing I loved every minute of this. It's funny how this really was like a short rom-coma good one though. I loved JJ's relationship with his mother. The bits where they were singing those songs in the car were hilarious. I liked the alien/space thing JJ had going as well. How JJ asked Lara out, the date itself and everything in-between was just really enjoyable. I liked Lara as a character because she was snappy \and the twist of her having a baby was interesting. At first I didn't like the ending scene with JJ singing 'True' but the second time it grew on me. Stand-out scenes JJ and his mum singing in the car The awkward visit to see Naomi and Emily JJ's mum calling Lara a slut by mistake Cook giving JJ dating advice in the shower JJ head butting that idiot Liam Next weeks looks brilliant. I missed Effy in this episode and can't wait to see what's going on with her. I can't believe we only have two episodes leftmoreless
JJ has met a girl at work he really likes. But when he finally works up the nerve to work her out, things turn out to be more anticipated than he expected.moreless
The episode this week was refreshingly light-hearted, especially compared with last weeks episode. It felt like a bit of a filler episode though, given that most of the main cast only made fleeting appearances. The episode also wasn't as insightful when compared to JJ's episode in season 3. Towards the end of an episode the quality took quite a dive - going abit too OTT - even for Skins. It was nice to see a funny, light-hearted episode of Skins for a change, but it went a bit too far in this case towards the episodes conclusions. But for the most part its a pretty good episode.moreless
After being attacked by Thomas with the price guns, JJ has two price labels on his sleeve near the shoulder, but by the time he gets around the corner, the labels have moved to the front of his shirt near his shoulder blade.

Eunice: You want to get in there JJ. My brother was in love with a girl during the war and by the time he got up the courage to ask her out it was too late.
JJ: What happened?
Eunice: His face got blown off by a bomb.

JJ: (speaking into a tape recorder) Captain's log. Nightime in space is cold, long and dark. So is the daytime. Nevertheless, the mission continues to make contact with alien life forms from a far away galaxy. I come in peace. (turns off the recorder) Tomorrow. If she smiles at me tomorrow.
Edit
JJ: (speaking into a tape recorder) Captain's log. Alien lifeform defined as Lara Lloyd. The most beautiful girl in this, or any known universe. Jonah Jones, a pathetic wanker who will die alone in a flat full of pigeons that he calls his babies. Mission aborted.
Edit
JJ records his 'Captain's logs' in the style of Jean-Luc Picard (played by Patrick Stewart) from Star Trek: The Next Generation. He even answers knocks on his door with the word "Come", as Picard did.
