I showed a bootleg copy of this episode to my political science class ( I teach State and Local government). It was excellent! The script was very well written, the camera work ( especially in the committee hearing scenes) was and the acting was superlative. The show was especially relevant nowadays, in light current debates about education. The episode was clearly on the "liberal" side of the fence, but it was never heavy handed or preachy.

Crenna was very good. He portrayed Slattery not as a plaster saint, but as a sharp-witted, eloquent and resourceful politician with an ironic wit.moreless
