This episode starts with the sliders on a world of violence and war. They are hiding in an old derelict building waiting for the timer to reach zero when a man enters the building looking for a woman who was also laying low in the building.
When things turn violent Quinn, and Rembrant, step in to help the woman, Michelle, from being beaten by her boyfriend Sid.
They make a spur of the moment decision, not approved by Arturo, to take Michelle with them to the next world and when the timer goes down to zero that is what they do. They do not know at first that Sid has witnessed their departure and follows them through the vortex.
They arrive in a new San Francisco and explain the situation to their new companions. They are soon joined by L.J., someone Sid and Michelle knew on the previous world, but obviously not on this one, who quickly offers to help them out, having witnessed their arrival.
To the sliders the world seems to have a lot of good points, no litter, clean air, electric vehicles...a world that functions under harsh laws but with the benefits of the same.
They are each given wrist bands to wear and are signed up to the compulsory "buddy system", where the buddy is punished if the other one commits a crime. Quinn finds himself with, the temporarily absent, Sid for a buddy.
Knowing that he is probably going to commit a crime they set out to find him before Quinn is killed for whatever crime it is that Sid will no doubt commit.
Wade meanwhile is buddied with Michelle and tries to convince her that she does not have to stay with Sid now that she has left her world. But Michelle is not keen to give him up, despite the way that he treats her.
The sliders are oblivious for some time as to the truth of their situation but eventually they do discover that they are in a prison that comprises of the whole of the city. Even worse the city is being ravaged by earthquakes and the big one that will destroy the city will be hitting at any time.
Quinn finds Sid but too late to stop him for committing a crime that sets off their wrist bands. Quinn has no option but to run for it.
Still assisted by L.J. the sliders find themselves the victim of a doublecross and their timer is the device that everyone hopes will save them from the upcoming earthquake.
Captured by the custodians the sliders are offered a choice to co-operate or be executed one by one and with the timer counting down and the earthquakes getting more violent they have to make tough choices about how to get out of the situation, which they of course do, just in the nick of time...exiting the world just before the final destructive earthquake hits.
