Recap: After celebrating their engagement with friends and family, Chloe and Jimmy are sedated and kidnapped. The next morning, Lois awakens to find herself at the Kent farm, hungover. Later, at the Talon, Lois and Clark find Chloe and Jimmy's empty apartment, while elsewhere, the couple find themselves hooked up to electrically charged lie detectors. The kidnapper asks them about any secrets they've been keeping from each other, while Lois and Clark investigate Chloe and Jimmy's disappearance, as well the disappearance of several other couples. When they discover that each couple used the same three wedding vendors, they pose as a couple themselves, and interview each vendor, including a jeweler and a baker. Eventually, Chloe and Jimmy pass the kidnapper's test and are set free, just as the kidnapper abducts Lois. With Chloe and Jimmy's help, Clark deduces that the kidnapper is a jeweler named Macy, and speeds off to rescue Lois. However, he's weakened by Macy's kryptonite bracelet and is captured, then he and Lois are subjected to the lie detector test. Meanwhile, Tess agrees to a date with Oliver.
My Review: Well, Clois fans have prayed, and The Powers That Be have finally shown they've been listening. The result: the most Clois-laden episode of the eighth season. In fact, viewers practically need a steel umbrella to get through all the falling Clois anvils. Thankfully, though, Clois devotees are always prepared in such situations and have plenty of umbrellas to pass around. :) All joking aside, though, I have a couple of nitpicks. As much as I liked Clark taking care of Lois during her hangover, I was confused when he mentioned that she was "in no condition to get behind the wheel." I mean, Lois lives with Chloe and Jimmy at the Talon, which is where the engagement party was held. Therefore, Clark could have simply carried Lois upstairs and put her to bed without having to worry about her driving. Also, why did Chloe and Jimmy step outside after the party, and why did they park their cars where the police would tow them? Oh, well. Again, they're nitpicks, so I can look past them. However, things I can't look past: how contrived Macy seemed as a character (what's the character version of "plot device"?) and how Tess coldly messed with Oliver's feelings. I mean, I get that she's mad 'cause of his roving eye, but he seemed sincere in his intentions towards her. She should've given him another chance, but maybe that's just my opinion. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed COMMITTED, so much so that I give it nine-and-a-half engagement rings out of ten.
Highlights: Lois and Clark's interaction at the engagement party; Lois waking up at the Kent farm and Clark taking care of hungover Lois; Lois and Clark visiting the Talon apartment; Lois "proposing" to Clark; Lois and Clark posing as a couple; Tess and Oliver's sparring match before their date; Chloe and Jimmy finding themselves back at the Talon; Clark trying to rescue Lois; Lois admitting she loves Clark; Clark knocking out Macy and freeing Lois; and Lois and Clark in the elevator.moreless
