Apparently, the reports of Smallville's death have been greatly exaggerated. Popular belief had the long-running Superman drama flying off into the sunset at the end of this season, its eighth, but now it seems there's a rallying cry to move forward.
The population of Smallville is about to be two fewer. That's the report from EW.com, which is citing a source close to the production of the show who says two characters from the CW science-fiction drama will be killed off later this season. Yikes! So who are the two unlucky stiffs?
When Kristin Kreuk began playing Lana Lang on the drama Smallville, she was 18 years old. Now in her prime at 25, the actress is apparently looking to branch out and make the transition to superstardom.
According to the snoops over at TVGuide.com, Kreuk is asking to not be back as a regular for Smallville's recently announced eighth season. The report states that both Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum (who plays young Lex Luthor on the show) have essentially given notice that when the show goes back into production for what is likely its final season, they don't want to return as stars, but wouldn't mind dropping in for a few episodes.

It's a little too early to call the CW's Smallville the Titanic, but there are definitely some icebergs on the horizon, and those lifeboats are looking awfully comfortable.
The show is currently in its seventh season and has been renewed for an eighth, but next season will look a lot different. The latest crew member rumored to be on the way out is Allison Mack, the fan favorite who plays Chloe Sullivan.
A recent rash of defections from the show has Mack thinking she should do the same, unless producers make staying worth her while, according to TVGuide.com, which cited "inside sources."
"[Smallville producers] need Chloe now more than ever--and Allison's people know it," the source told TVGuide.com. Mack's people are allegedly in negotiations to sign her for next season, and the actress has a ton of leverage on her side.
