  • I agree with many of you

While I agree that the episode in general is bland, I wouldn't go as far as to say something in the "2/10" region for a score, that's over-the-top. My main gripes with the episode was the whole idea of a beauty pageant which doesn't seem to fit with the current season's theme - maybe more along the lines of classic Smallville, which we've long been past. Same goes for Lana's return. She faked her death, allowing Clark to move onto better things - say Lois? He said he would move away after Lana's funeral. Now she's back, and he can fawn after her while staying in Smallville and not flying into his future. *frustration*moreless
  • Horrible acting

I don't know if it's me, but I thought no one acted right. It seems like all of them smoked a blunt before arriving on the set. Eva, I'm sorry you are a horrible actor. You should just stick to modeling. The episode was going somewhat decent until the middle. How did Kara burst out of jail and saved Clark? Since when can you destroyed Kryptonite with Heat Vision? I think the writers are running out of ideas and putting crap together and calling it an episode. They need to just retire and make room for news writers. I'm giving you my time to watch a show you created, you should at least write episodes that the majority of the fans like.moreless
  • Kara tries to fit in by entering a beauty contest. Three meteor-infected contestants befriend Kara in an attempt to use her abilities to help them steal a treasure buried under Smallville.moreless

Meteor freaks everywhere, and none of which had interesting powers. I mean, come on, ice and snow abilities were explored back in season ONE!!! This episode actually felt like it could have been done in season one...and I might have even loved it. Now, I'm to the point where I want to put my foot through the screen whenever they haul out the krypto-mutants. They're just plain annoying.

There were abundant plot holes. Kara breaks out of jail and nothing happens afterwards? Not even a reasonable excuse for what happened, or why she wasn't punished? How is it possible that Kara was able to blast a piece of kryptonite with her eyes without going blind like Clark did in season 3's "Whisper"? There were others, but they are too many to list.

Overall, I was very disappointed by this episode. Will I ever watch it again? Most likely, when I get the box set in September. However, this is one that will stay on the shelf the rest of the time.moreless
  • Ahhhh, the first filler/freak(s) of the week of Season Seven!

Man, this episode was... very bland. Not a whole lot happened, other than Kara wanting to fit in and be a normal girl, which apparently means join a beauty pageant... you know, like all the normal girls.

The villains of the week were stupid, unmemorable and.. just blah. Didn't care for them at all or the performances involved. It ended without any real suspense and.. boy was I glad for it.

We also get our first glimpse at the Chloe/Jimmy/Kara love triangle that plays out throughout the course of the year, which I wasn't a fan of during the initial run and I probably won't feel any different going back.

Not to mention, Lana and Clark are finally (!) going to have a chance at a normal relationship. After seven years, it's about time. Oh wait, this has happened before. And nobody cares anymore about the two of them.

The Lex and Kara scene outside the Talon was the best scene in the episode. As it sets the stage with the Kara/Lex relationship that plays a very big part throughout the season. Lex was great in the scene as always.

Luckily for us, a better episode is up next. This one, you can skip it.moreless
  • The weather girls.

This episode was a step up from the first two episode, Lana returns & meets Kara as well. I love how Clark says his life has got more complicated & Lana thought they were going out, Kara & Clark. I like the weather girls, they were such a B***! But anyways Lana is so awesome, I missed her. Lex confronts Kara about the savior at the dam. That was pretty cool, Lex is picking up the pieces. Jimmy is saved by Kara, and now we know that Kara likes Jimmy which could cause some tension, this episode really opens doors for the season. Amazing!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (8)

    • Trivia: Smallville is located in Lowell county, according to the Miss Sweet Corn Pageant flier.

    • The pageant director said to the sheriff that the frozen girl (Carly) and two other girls entered the pageant at the last minute. However, Kara entered the pageant even later then they did, why didn't she mention her?

    • When the blond girl (the first one) is frozen, it's an instant freezing so she couldn't possibly have a scared look when Kara finds her. She wouldn't have enough time to look scared.

    • When Tyler freezes Carly it takes only a second despite the fact she's in a fairly open temperature-controlled room. When she freezes Jimmy inside a car, it takes forever

    • Kara's make-up is perfect before and after the scene at the Talon where she has trouble putting on make-up.

    • It's not clear how Kara is cleared of the charges at the end. She left her fingerprints on the window at the scene of Carly's death. She still destroyed the statue. The two people who incriminated her aren't likely to suddenly clear her name, and in fact will probably try to drag her down with them. So why is Kara released by the police at the end?

    • When Kara is in jail, she bends the bars slightly. Throughout the next few shots the bars jump between being bent and being straight.

    • In the first scene of the pageant the order of girls starts with the girl in the light blue swimsuit (Cindy Walker) and the girl in the orange swimsuit is next in line. But when Clark comes in and looks at the stage Kara is called out next even though she was not in the line to start with and you can see Cindy Walker (light blue swimsuit) is back in the line and the girl in the orange is now further back in the line. A quick flash back to Clark's face the girl in the orange swimsuit (Elizabeth Johnston) is then called out and we can see that Cindy Walker (light blue swimsuit) is walking off the stage for a second time.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Kara: Look, I'm sorry, Mr. Luthor. The only secret I've got is that I make a lousy cappuccino. It's probably not the best thing to confess to your boss, huh?
Lex: Twice I've been pulled back from the brink of death, and both times it was by a member of the Kent family. I'm not a man who believes in coincidences. Sooner or later, I'll find out the truth. Are you a savior? Or are you a warning?

    • Kara: Clark, you're not human. No matter how much you want to be. I mean we can harvest corn and pump mochas all we want but it's not gonna make us one of them.
Clark: I may have been born on another planet you care, but Earth is my home. Everyone I love, everyone I care about is here. It's where I belong.

    • Clark: You just have to fit in.
Kara: (seeing Jimmy) How do I fit in with him?

    • Clark: Lana, this is my cousin, Kara.
      Kara: Hi.
      Lana: Hi.
Kara: Say hello to the next Miss Sweet Corn.
Clark: Uh, listen, uh, when I talked about fitting in, I was thinking of something with more clothes. This is definitely not blending in.
      Kara: You mean, undercover?
Clark: Yes, exactly. And this is... not covered. Um, look, can you just go change, please? Now.
      Kara: Fine.
      (Kara superspeed changes clothes)
      Kara: You said "now."
Lana: I guess I don't have to ask which side of the family you come from.

    • Chloe: How much a blunt trauma do you think a stapler to the back of the head would cause?

    • Carter: I had a feeling the mystique of anonymity wouldn't last long against a Luthor?
Lex: Against? Throwing down the gauntlet when we've barely been introduced?
Carter: Not a big fan of small talk.

    • Lex: I don't suppose I can ask you to somehow see that every horrible thing I did was because I truly do love you.
Lana: No, you can't ask that.

    • Clark: Then why wouldn't you tell me?
Kara: Hmm, where do you want me to start? Your patronizing watermelon tutorials, your reprimands, or your general disinterest in everything I've done since I've shown up?

    • Clark: You saved me, and even though that's not the way I would have done it, I know that you need to figure out how to use your abilities your own way.
Kara: Does that mean you're going to stop trying to tell me what to do?
Clark: Probably not. Isn't that what's family for?

    • Kara: Just don't expect me to keep looking over my shoulder, living this life of suffocating repression just because you do.
      Clark: "Suffocating repression," huh.
Kara: Hey, it's your language, I just studied it.

    • Kara: Is this really necessary?
Clark: It's all about control, which you don't have.
Kara: Me? Get back to me when can you fly, Earth boy.
Clark: Well, you're the one who almost lit up the whole fair.
Kara: Has anyone ever told you're a little uptight? You definitely get that from your father.
