At the beginning when Clark is rescuing people in Metropolis, at the jewelry store where a robbery is taking place, Clark pushes the robber flying through a window but you can clearly see that the glass breaks before the the robber is even thrown through it.
Before Davis and Jimmy start riding in the ambulance (about 27 minutes in), there is a cut scene of the city. The clip is played in reverse, as shown by the cars moving backwards.
The jewelry store Clark rescues at the beginning of the episode is the same one featured in the previous episode "Committed."
During the scene when Chloe and Davis are sitting at the outside cafe, the same woman walks by them twice. She is a long blonde-haired woman, with a black skirt and white blouse, and a black leather jacket. If you watch, she will pass Chloe's back twice during the conversation: first when Chloe says "I help people" and second right before she says "I shouldn't be here."
John: We can't save everyone, Clark.
Clark: The moment I believe that is when I stop trying.
John: I didn't realize that photographic memory was among your abilities.
Clark: It's more like speed-reading, but let's not split hairs.
Chloe: (to Davis) Chance meeting in a moldy basement over a corpse. Will the romance ever end?
Davis: You're really… leaping out on a limb for me.
Chloe: Well, if what they say is true and fools rush in, then I have definitely earned the mantle of "village idiot" on this one.
John: Sometimes what we think is a good instinct is just our mind trying to convince us of what we want to believe.
John: You are not in Smallville anymore, Clark. Metropolis has millions of people walking the streets, every one of them watching for a miracle. To change their lives, to give them hope. You are that miracle. And it's just a matter of time before someone discovers that.
Detective John Jones is the same identity Martian Mahunter adopted at his first appearance in Detective Comics #225.

Injoke: Jimmy's line about the rumored killer being a "monster with bony eyelids" refers to the appearance of Doomsday in the Superman comics.
The character Randy and his ability to transform into a shadow bears a strong resemblance to the DC villain the Shadow Thief, who can transform into an intangible shadow but physically attack others at will.
Injoke: John's line about "your emerald ally and his super friends" refers to the SuperFriends, a group of DC superheroes that featured in their own cartoon show starting in 1973. The show aired under various incarnations and consisted originally of Superman, Batman & Robin, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman. Many other DC super heroes, including Green Arrow, appeared over the years, although Martian Manhunter was not one of them.
Erica Durance, Justin Hartley, and Cassidy Freeman do not appear in this episode.
