  • nice best ever show i have ever seen

    Very good and awesome
  • Everyone loves a hero.

Telling you, every time there is another superhero in the spotlight, people really start to like an episode, even if the hero isn't anyone they've even heard of. This time around, it's a grand total of 3 (Superman, Green Arrow, & Black Canary). Black Who? Anyways, it doesn't matter, the episode itself was actually just so-so. The best part of the episode, no joke, is when Lois and Clark hug.
  • interesting episode! except for the main plot, of course.

I've had a very busy week. I recorded persona and then this episode without finding the time to watch them until practically now. straight after watching persona I was about to log in and write a long review complaining about lana and how clear it is now that she can never be right for clark because as hard as she tries she will never accept clark's destiny. I was gonna write down my personal wisdom and predict that in the end lois will prove she's the one because she's strong enough to step back and accept her inevitable second position in clark's priorities and yet be able to stand by him while lana couldn't. Except I decided to watch siren first. And I loved it!! in 45 minutes of show all my supposed wisdom fell into pieces and I could do nothing but laugh at myself. so I loved it!! And for the first time I felt sorry lana's leaving. :)

Oh sure I was forgetting the main theme of the episode... BC working for Lex? and trully believing he is a victim of green arrow's greed?? not to mention the mask shaped make-up........... please... are you cw people that out of money you can't even afford a real mask? or is it because she's a woman? I hated it. the return of oliver was totally ruined.moreless
  • The debut of the Black Canary

"Canary" brings the return of Green Arrow and the debut of the Black Canary. And Lois finds out about Oliver's secret identity. That's pretty much the whole episode in a nutshell. Not very interesting. The whole plot involving Lex and Black Canary working together just didn't do much to keep me entertained throughout the 40 minutes.

However, I did like the breakup of Lois and Oliver, and Lois' reasons for the break up. The parallels of what she gets into with Clark is a sign that she still has a ways to go to become the person we know later in lore. Plus, the scene where Clark and Lois have the talk about said break up, is one of the few good moments where the two characters get to do something other than some comedic playing off each other.

The episode ends with the Justice League gaining another member and another riveting conversation between Lana and Clark, just let that relationship die already. Please?moreless
  • Nothing really happened

I only liked the fight sequence between Lex, The Green Arrow and The Black Canary. Other than that, this episode was stupid. Not even the return of Justin Hartley as the Green Arrow saved it. How many more times can Lois be hurt and we thought that Clana was coming to an end, but of course it looks like they are stronger than ever. I'm sick of seeing recycled storylines that weren't good to begin with being played over again. It's time to be original. By the way, Smallville is supposed to be an action show, this episode was too much drama and so 7th Heaven.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • When Chloe runs into the elevator in the opening sequence, even though she is being chased by a person who throws knives, she stands right in the middle of elevator rather than on either side, where she would have at least a little protection.

    • Oliver believes that Black Canary wasn't trying to harm Chloe. Except in the opening sequence Black Canary threw a knife at Chloe's head, while Chloe was running into an elevator. You don't throw knives at people's heads unless you mean them harm.

    • Clark comes in and brings Chloe a sandwich, which she tells him is the wrong one. In the previous episode Bizarro-Clark's lack of knowledge was a clue to Chloe that he wasn't the real Clark, because she thinks he has a "titanium trap" memory. So why doesn't she think Clark is an impostor here?

    • Lois' lover Grant Gabriel died in the immediately preceding episode. Yet she doesn't mention it at all until the very end and isn't at all upset.

    • When Dinah Lance picks Chloe's desk drawer she manages to open it with a pick without ever turning the lock. She doesn't really open the lock at all and in fact picking a lock of that kind needs a second tool to apply pressure, then turn the lock once the pins have been put in place called a tension wrench.

    • When Oliver greets Lois, he isn't wearing a shirt. Then he puts on a loose-sleeved shirt. Black Canary then knocks him out and he drops to the floor, unconscious. Later when he's tied in the chair, he somehow produces an arrowhead from the shirt sleeve, even though he had no chance to pick it up and it would have caused the sleeve to "drag" in the early scene when he puts on the shirt, if for some reason he had the arrowhead hidden in it.

    • In the scene in Lex's study when everything is shown from Clark's perspective Black Canary's knife is moving at the same speed towards Lex as the bullet is towards her. As she has no super-strength she should not be able to throw anything even close to that speed.

  • QUOTES (24)

    • Clark: Lois, this isn't like you. Normally when things get challenging that's when you get interested.

    • Lois: (about Oliver) There are parts of him you've never seen.
      Clark: That's a given.

    • Oliver: Lois?
Lois: Oh, don't even think of looking at me now. So, in all those nights together, somewhere between brushing teeth and spooning in the sheets, you didn't think that it might be a good time to mention that you prowl the streets with green leather and a compound bow?
Oliver: Well, I don't usually bring the compound bow.
Lois: Oh, so now he's a funny hero. I can't believe you didn't tell me that you were Green Arrow!
Oliver: Hard to imagine why when you're taking it so well.

    • Lana: It's kind of interesting that everyone was so quick to turn me into Lady MacBeth when they found out I was watching Lex.

    • Green Arrow: I like the look. Italian?
Black Canary: Why? You thinking of trading in your tights?

    • Clark: Why don't you try to think about someone other than yourself for once?
Oliver: I'm selfish? You know, some of us sacrifice being with the people that we really care about so that we can go make a difference. What do you do? You sit around in domestic bliss curled up on a couch while a world of trouble spins outside your door!

    • Oliver: The whole jumping to conclusions thing before you get the full story? How's that working out for you?
      Lois: Huge time-saver.

    • Oliver: (to Black Canary) Lady Justice must be blinder than I thought if she's got you on her side.

    • Lois: (to Oliver) I got to say, it clears up a lot. Never did make sense how you could blow off a hottie like me.

    • Oliver: I'm asking you, please give us another chance. I can make this work.
Lois: I can't... You know me and my big mouth, I could never keep a secret...

    • Lois: Enter at your own caloric risk.

    • Lois: (to Clark) Besides, you know, why settle for hot, rich and famous when I can hang out with you?

    • Clark: Maybe she'll get used to the whole dual-identity thing someday.
Oliver: Yeah, like when? When the Earth cracks open and time ticks backward? I don't think so.

    • Dinah: I'm not really much of a team player.
Oliver: Really That's perfect. You're gonna fit right in.

    • Oliver: Come on. There's a couple of people I want you to meet.
Dinah: Has anyone ever told you you have lousy taste in women?
      Oliver: Yeah.

    • Lana: Clark, I think that you doubt whether I'm the one you're really going to end up with.
Clark: I can't tell you the future, Lana. Honestly, I don't know what's gonna happen to us.

    • Clark: Lois, just because someone's life is a great responsibility doesn't mean your life has to take second place.
Lois: Of course it does, Clark. Can you imagine what it would be like to look into somebody's eyes and know that their destiny is so much greater than yours, that you will never compete? You will always be left behind.

    • Lois: (about Oliver) He's got this one side that I'm not sure I could live with.
Clark: How would you know if you don't give it a chance?
Lois: We're not you and Lana. We're not the perfect couple, we're not destined for each other.

    • Lois: Maybe I'm selfish here... but I don't wanna wonder where you are every night. I don't think I'd be good at the whole dual identity thing. I can't... I can't share you with the rest of the world.

    • Lois: Whoa... wait a second. I kissed Green Arrow last year when you were standing there with me in the alley!
Oliver: Yeah! I remember that with precise detail!

    • Oliver: I missed you... more than you can possibly know.
Lois: If you think that glistening-muscle-answering the door in your bare chest routine was gonna work... you were dead on.

    • Lois: (after slapping him) That's for breaking my heart.
Oliver: Really? 'Cause it felt like it was for not calling when I got back into town.
Lois: That one will come when you least expect it. Will you put a shirt on or something?

    • Clark: You put Chloe in danger!
Oliver: So I take it we're skipping over the whole "Hello, good to see you again" part of the conversation?

    • Chloe: It was just Internet interception... that ended up having a vicious ninja lady attached to it who chased me on to the roof and then almost beheaded me and jumped over the side of the building, which I've got to admit: was really smokin' cool.

  • NOTES (6)

    • The following scenes were left out of the episode:
      - Lois making a joke towards Clark. He in turn snaps at her as he is still upset over Lana's time with Bizarro.

    • Music: 11/22 (Buddy)

    • In Joke: Oliver's reference to the earth cracking open and time ticking backwards is a homage to Superman: The Movie (1978), where Clark turns back time to rescue Lois after she dies in an earthquake set off by Lex Luthor.

    • Aaron Ashmore and Laura Vandervoort don't appear in this episode. Justin Hartley is credited by character name.

    • Black Canary
Black Canary first appeared in Flash Comics #86 (August 1947) and was created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino. Dinah Lance is a florist who decides to fight crime by donning a blonde wig, a domino mask (later dropped), and a blue costume including fishnet stockings, and going out to fight crime. She was a member of the Justice Society of America, and later brought back in the Silver Age along with other members of the team. She later joined the Justice League of America, and then the Birds of Prey, and her history was subsequently altered so that the modern-day Dinah Laurel Lance is the daughter of the original Dinah Lance. She is a skilled martial artist, leader, and motorcyclist, and typically possesses a super-sonic "Canary Cry." She and Green Arrow are a romantic couple in the comics. A similar character, although named Carolyn Lance, appeared in WB's Birds of Prey series in the episode "Sins of the Mother" and was the superhero mother of regular character Dinah Redmond, who possessed psionic abilities.

    • Lana: It's kind of interesting that everyone was so quick to turn me into Lady MacBeth when they found out I was watching Lex.
Lady Macbeth is a character in Shakespeare's play Macbeth, which is based on the real-life Queen Gruoch of Scotland. In the play, she manipulates her husband, Macbeth of Scotland, into killing the current king to become the king himself.
