In the midst of dealing with Kyle's sudden death, which sees Julia, Tom and Jimmy flash back to the times they spent with him, Eileen confronts Jerry when he asks to help her with Bombshell, Karen and Jimmy reconcile after he catches her with Derek; Julia makes a decision about The Great Gatsby; Derek confronts Ivy about their future together; progress is made on Hit List's Broadway transfer; Bombshell dims their lights for Kyle.

Tom and Julia's anger with each other comes to a head at an interview; Eileen's got Ivy on a tiring publicity blitz for Bombshell, which finds her leaving Derek in the dust; a destructive Jimmy threatens the success of Hit List, prompting Derek to make a drastic move; based on Jimmy's actions, Kyle decides it's time to call it quits.

Bombshell finally celebrates its opening night; nervous about reviews, Ivy finds solace in an unlikely source; Julia's excited about a new project for her and Tom, but Tom may be hiding a secret; Karen finds out about Jimmy's past; after letting go of Richard, Eileen recruits Agnes (Daphne Rubin-Vega) to revamp the show's press campaign ahead of the Tonys, as Scott and Derek announce a major move forward for Hit List.

When Ivy has an unfortunate incident at the final dress rehearsal for Bombshell, she's forced to make a difficult decision; after a talk with Julia, Derek sees Hit List in a new light and makes changes ahead of a Times-critiqued stumble-through, which might not sit well with Karen and Jimmy; Derek reveals a secret to Karen; a surprising Times article is released.

Tom attempts to mend his crumbling relationship with Ivy, by planning a special birthday surprise for her. Eileen considers a relationship with Richard Francis; Julia's new position in Hit List brings up new questions in her relationship with Scott. Derek admits his true feelings for Karen, and the result causes turmoil between the he, Karen, and Jimmy; Karen discovers Jimmy's hiding something.

Karen's dad, Roger (Dylan Baker), visits and questions Karen's decision to leave Bombshell, while Ivy and her mother, Leigh Conroy (Bernadette Peters), butt heads when Leigh is cast in Bombshell; Jimmy reveals he owes money to a past connection, and may also be hiding something else; Julia makes up with Scott (Jesse L. Martin), and in return, he makes her an offer; Ivy gives Tom an ultimatum; Derek finds out a game-changing secret.

When Ivy brings Sam back to town, Tom finds himself in an awkward situation involving Bombshell; Jimmy and Derek continue to clash over their vision for Hit List; Julia seeks out Scott for an apology; Eileen makes a move in an effort to get Bombshellgood press;both Ana and Karen struggle to stand up for what they want.

Tom's new position isn't helping him to connect with Karen in rehearsal; Jimmy struggles to thematically expand Hit List; Eileen enlists her daughter, Katie (Grace Gummer)'s help in fighting back against Jerry; Ivy's advice sends Terry (Sean Hayes) in a wildly different direction at Liaisons opening; Karen makes a big career decision.

While Jimmy and Kyle prepare Hit List for the Fringe festival, Karen finds out she must choose between that show and Bombshell. Peter asks Julia to go away with him, Ivy confronts Terry Falls regarding his contributions to Liaisons, Eileen finds out about Jerry's scheme, and Derek makes a decision regarding his commitment to Bombshell, putting Tom in a new position.

Tom, Julia and Derek await a read-through of Bombshell, in which Julia and Peter's tailored new book will be revealed. Karen and Ana help Kyle and Jimmy with Hit List after they receive disappointing news. Ivy clashes with Liasons lead Terrence Falls (Sean Hayes) during a rehearsal. Eileen butts heads with Jerry, but will do everything to make sure she's not out of the Bombshell team completely.

Jimmy and Kyle continue to work on their dream as Karen orchestrates a big opportunity for the pair. Meanwhile, Peter makes challenges of Julia's work and there could be significant ramifications for Bombshell as Eileen comes across a moral crossroads.

The creative team faces a myriad of issues to overcome during a gala with the theatre community, including Julia's continued depression, Eileen's financial trouble, and a rumor that threatens Derek's credibility in the business; Ivy contemplates leaving the business, but might end up saving the day after all; Karen befriends two Brooklyn friends and songwriters, interested in a new musical they wrote.

The cast and crew ofBombshell return to New York in the hope of finding a new home on Broadway. However, a new scandal involving the financing for the show could put its future in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Ivy butts heads with Karen and questions her future with the show, while Julia enters a depressive state following marital troubles.

As opening night approaches, Rebecca Duvall is replaced by an ensemble member; Dev's job opportunity threatens the outcome of Bombshell; Frank and Julia must push their discrepancies aside while "Bombshell" opens on Broadway; Lyle returns with bad news.

The arrival of Rebecca Duval does not go well and "Bombshell" is turned upside down. This leads to Ivy and Karen to try and overcome their history as they unite against their new rival. Meanwhile, Tom and Sam's blossoming romance heats up.

Ivy and Karen once again go head to head as they compete for an orange juice commercial. Julia deals with the repercussions of Frank finding out about she and Michael, while Tom deals with his recent discovery that his beau is a Republican. Eileen tries to replace Derek, and Ellis will do anything to get himself to the top. Tom and Julia come up with a title for the piece.
After confronting Michael, Frank decides to leave Julia and Leo.

As the team deals with the fallout of the workshop, Eileen is forced to deal with her estranged husband as her daughter pays a surprise visit. While, Derek asks Karen to help him steal the show away from Tom and Julia.

It's time for the team to present ''Marilyn the Musical'' to possible investors however, Ivy struggles to perform and Karen must make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, Julia and Michael must face up to the consequences of their actions.

Julia is struggling to avoid Michael while, Eileen and Ellis' friendship continues to grow as they hang out at a local downtown dive bar. Also, Karen books a side job at a bar and Ivystarts to have issues with her voice.

The tension between Michael and Julia increases as past emotions resurface meanwhile, Ivy believes that all is not right in her relationship with Derek. Karen puts her talents to use at a government party and Eileen joins forces with Tom's assistant.

Karen decides that she needs to start learning how to get ahead in the world of Broadway. Meanwhile, Eileen tests a new fundraising strategy, Tom goes on a date and, Derek throws a party for a hot young celebrity (guest star Nick Jonas).

The actor favored by everyone to take on the role of Joe DiMaggio is harboring a secret. Meanwhile, on a trip to Iowa for a baby shower Karen has some important decisions to make about her future. And Eileen finds that some potential investors may have been turned against her by her ex-husband.
