It was cool how the carbon fiber protected the mobile home from hurricane-force winds, but how expensive is that stuff? Would it be economical to actually use it for hurricane-proofing in the real world?

Nope. That has actually been discussed a couple dozen times already on Discovery's own forums. Real pros in the business have said it would cost much more than the homes themselves.

You should drop by and read what they have said about it. Be warned, though. All five pages of the show's own forum is filled with nothing but thread after thread of complaints and petitions to have it pulled off the air.

I'm pretty sure that they said what the cost is. I think it was something like $30/sqft or $3/sqft or something with a three. In any case, they said it was cheap but I did not agree.
