  • Best choreography so far this year!

I was really impressed by both the top 12 dancers and the choreographers in this episode. As much as Mia Michaels is a crazy b**ch, she is an amazing choreographer, and Kayla and Kupono danced her piece beautifully. I'm really rooting for Kayla. Her dancing is so flawless and has a kind of purity to it . She's all lightness and grace. Kupono has done sooo much better with Kayla as his partner--maybe she's inspired him to take his dancing to the next level. At any rate, I think he deserves a chance to see if he can do as well with another partner. His greatest weakness is his lack of strength--which is definitely not an issue for Brandon or Ade! I thought that the addiction piece by Mia Michaels would be my hands-down favorite, but then the Wade Robeson piece danced by Brandon and Jeanette just blew me away! They really pulled out all the stops. It was perfect. Given their earlier excellent performance doing an Argentine Tango, I think they were certainly the best couple for the night.

As to the rest of the performances, overall, I was really impressed. I think when it comes down to it, the weakest dances were that awful Russian folk dance Jeanine and Phillip had forced upon them (not their fault), the awkward samba danced by Randi and Evan (totally their fault), and the unremarkable fox trot danced by Caitlin and Jason (which was at least the best of the three worst dances). So who should be eliminated? I think Jeanine and Phillip's jive routine was totally awesome, and since they unfairly were stuck with the Russian folk dance, I think the judges should toss out that piece when evaluating them. They pretty much already said they aren't getting rid of Jeanine, and since Phillip has such a large fan base, I really doubt they'll eliminate him before the top ten because they're going to want him on the tour. As for Randi and Evan, their hip hop routine was awesome, but Tabitha and Napoleon intentionally kept them pretty close to their comfort zone. In terms of the samba, the judges were much harder on Evan than Randi, but I thought they could have been harder on both of them. Neither of them seemed comfortable with the dance and it felt like they were just going through the motions. Caitlin and Jason actually got pretty good reviews for the fox trot and the contemporary dance by Mandy Moore, but the judges weren't dazzled. I thought the Mandy Moore piece was lovely and danced well, but I agree with the judges that their performance, while technically good, lacked emotion and connection. I think they were concentrating so hard on being flawless in their own genre that they didn't connect emotionally with each other or with the piece.

Having said all that, I think Jason and Caitlin should be the ones sent home. If not Jason, then Evan, and if not Caitlin, then Randi, but I doubt the judges are going to get rid of Randi. I'm psyched for the results show tonight!

Right now, I'm going to predict that Brandon, Ade, Kayla, and Jeanine are going to be the final four dancers, though Jeanette could take Jeanine's place depending on how events unfold. We'll see!moreless

    • Mary: (critiquing Ade and Melissa) I hate to see the partnership break by the way. I hate to see all of the partnerships break up next week.
Nigel: Does that mean I get a break from you next week?
Mary: NO! PIPE DOWN ENGLISH MUFFIN!
      (the crowd roars with laughter)

    • Nigel: (in response to Jeanine and Phillips' Russian folkdance routine) This is a difficult one cause, ya know, we ask you to try anything and everything that we throw at you on this program. I'm just not sure we should have thrown that.
