AIRED:
As the show opened, all 20 dancers performed a Brian Friedman number. Cat then introduced the judges: Nigel, Mary and Dan, and explained that the 3 couples with the lowest audience votes are to dance a solo for these judges, who will then decide which boy and which girl is going home. Nelly Furtado and Timberland perform.moreless

Here are my thoughts on the solos and everything. Erin left. It was a tight competition, yet it was obvious among the girls. Allison, the only reason she was in the bottom was because of Ivan, and I felt that she had the best solo anyway. Jessica's solo had really good musiciality for me, and her disco was stronger than Erin's Pasa Doble, which is why she left. It's sad though, because people cut off on the first week always could've been great, you never know. Stansilav... if I was watching it for the first time, I would've definetly said that Ivan deserved to go but since after he did so many good dances, I can't say that, but at the moment considering that his solo was a little weak and he let Allison down, I thought he should go. Although, I guess Nigel is right with the partner/solo comparison. I still feel sorry for Stansilav though, but I liked the comparison Nigel used with Artem from last season for a way for Stansilav to understand. You have to admit though solos like Dmitys, Benjis, and Heidis, really proved that ballroom solos can be good. Overall the episode was really good:)moreless
  • The suspense was killing me, but I was very surprised by the end result.

Overall, as a series, So You Think You Can Dance has improved in season two. This episode was a fine example because a lot of the dancers are more memorable this year. I don't know if it is because they are better or if I am paying attention more or because the 'game' has changed slightly - either way this season will surely be more interesting and host Cat Deeley delivers the results in such a way that she is almost too withholding of information. I was very surprise and disappointed at who got voted off this episode, but as a show overall I was more than entertained. Keep it coming!moreless
  • Well, now, THIS is a mistake. THIS is a clear mistake. A farewell to Stanislav and Erin? This is bad.

Yea, this isn't good. This is a problem. This could be one of the worst things to happen in the turn of human events.

Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but let me just say that it comes pretty close.

For starters, I truthfully wasn't pulling for Erin all that much. I thought that she was an okay dancer, but she wasn't the one I was hoping would rise all the way up through the ranks and make it to the top of the heap. Nope, not her. Then again, while he may not be my favorite (Benji ties with Travis on my favorite), Stanislav should NOT have gone home this episode.

Let me say what the problem was:

Ivan. Ivan. Ivan! It was IVAN!

That was the problem here. He clearly wasn't as powerful a dancer as Stanislav. His routine as a solo was . . . childish. What was with the finger shaking thing? It was odd looking, and Stanislav was like Artem of season 1 - suave and smooth, ballrooom dancer master, and had a good personality, never mind what those judges said. This is a problem, yea? If IVAN was saved when Stanislav, and his partner, were cut, there could be some rough hits in the road ahead.

Then again . . . think of this: Last year, Jonnis was the first guy booted. While he may not have been the true champion there, I really liked him. He was spared over Alan and Jamile, and he was a very good dancer. But he was the first cut. Maybe this is a mere fluke, just like that was - maybe things can only get better?

Pray with me, people. Pray with me.moreless
