Here's a little something special. It's "Little Chaos Lost", the one with the Chao Garden. It's good to see another element from "Sonic Adventure" factor into the cartoon. And now, here's another list of comparisons between the original Japanese version and the dubbed English version of this episode:

1.A view of Mr. Tanaka bowing before a statue is cut.

2.Every single Japanese sign has been blanked at the bus stop and it's surrounding area. (Note - it's LOTS of signs.)

3.Originally, Francine was giving Amy a massage. ^^ In the dub, she just talks about having fun on the camping trip.

4.Amy's line "But I didn't think he had any kind of appointment during this season. What a lonely young man." (who is Stuart BTW) is changed to "This whole camping thing better be fun, or they're gonna hear it from me!"

5.A 16-second scene of Sonic talking to some women in Kimonos is cut.

6.Tails' line, when he found a bug "It rolled up like Sonic! Lets take back this insect here!" is changed to "Wow, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen! I'm gonna put it in a jar and take it home with me!" Not really major, but it makes Tails seem a bit over-enthusiastic. ^^

7.Eggman's line "I'm not running away. That Chaos Emerald is mine!" is changed to "I'll remain incognito alright...as incognito as a snake in the grass!" I know what incognito means. How do 4Kids expect little kids to know what it means?

8.When Eggman gets the big moth thing in his face, he originally shouted "It itches! I can't bear it!" In the dub, he just does a few high-pitched loud screams.

9.A 2-second view of the marketplace is cut in the dub. Also, LOADS of Japanese signs are blanked here.

10.When one of the Chao pulls on Tails' whiskers, he originally said "This is a really beautiful place!" In the dub, he says "This one wants to go for a swim!"

11.The dub calls Cheese a SHE. ?!? Also, they call the area a "Chao Colony". I guess that's OK, but Chao Garden would be better. However, as that wasn't mentioned in the original, I'll let them off. Chao Colony just sounds a bit weird.

12.As they leave the Chao area, Danny originally said he'd bring his basketball next time. In the dub, he says they can play some baseball. His line is a bit out of character - Danny's supposed to like basketball...

13.Bocoe's line "This island country is different from the mainland." is changed to the MUCH funnier "It might be more effective on hard flat surfaces!" XD It makes E-66 sound like a toy.

14.Sonic's line "Good bye!" (in English) is changed to "Later, kids!" in the dub. This is a bit stupid, because Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe AREN'T kids...

15.Some more Japanese text has been removed from Sonic's souvenirs.

16.Francine's line "I'll have to take a shower" is changed to "Guess I need a bath!" There's quite a bit of difference between a shower and a bath. :P

17.A 5-second close up view of the group holding sparklers is cut.

18.Finally, Dub Tanaka says he stumbled upon the Chao Garden when he was a kid, but the Japanese Tanaka does not.

Overall, this was maybe a bit above average. There was LOADS of blanked Japanese text, but unlike "Depths Of Danger", you didn't need any of it to get a particular joke. The cut scenes didn't really affect the overall plot of the episode, and there were no bad puns. :) Not a bad job, then, eh?

And I'll answer a question that has been on everyone's mind: how did the Chao Garden get to Earth if they didn't get there by Sonic's accidental chaos control back in "Chaos Control Freaks"? My answer to this is described in three simple words: Decepticon Space Bridge.

    Peace, I'm out.moreless

  • Not bad...but it was only good because of the chao.

I love chao, so that's what saved this show. But by my classification I meant that this seemed to be a filler episode, plain and simple.

I don't even want to think what kind of debate was stirred up on message boards when they planted the chao on earth. And I was *very* wierded out to hear that the butler had spent time with them growing up. I highly doubt that they would have gone too unnoticed in the first place - I know I would have snatched one up to take home with me! ^-^()

It was nice to see more of the little blue critters animated for our enjoyment, but...how in the world did they get here? I have the awful feeling that the show writers don't even know about Sonic Adventure 1.moreless

  • Pretty good

I thought this episode was pretty good. Especially with Sonic traveling around the world to get a lot of souveniers. What baffles me is how did the Chao get into Earth? Weren't they originated from Mobius? Tanaka said that he first saw them when he was a kid, too! Still, it's good.

    • If chao are from Sonic's planet, but Mr. Tanaka said he found them when he was little, how did they get to Earth if they didn't get there by Sonic's accidental chaos control? (Reply: In The RAW Japanese version Tanaka did NOT Say he found the chao Garden. It's just another one of 4kids pointless edits) Edit
