    ABC (ended 2001)
When Teddie Cochran (Geena Davis) moved to her fiancee's house, she didn't expect to suddenly become a mother. Little by little, Teddie has to adjust from a single, fast paced woman into a mother and wife. She tries to win the kids heart so she can have a happy family and live peacefully with the man she loves. At work, things aren't any easier with her crazy co-workers, Alan and Judy. But Teddie isn't all alone on this. She knows she can always count on her best friend, the drunk Hillary, and the warm-hearted nanny, Gladys. The Geena Davis Show was one of the shows built around a 'big' Hollywood name, like many others that also premiered on the 2000-2001 season, a move from the networks to attract viewers with familiar faces. Unfortunately, none of the shows ("Normal, Ohio", led by "Roseanne" star John Goodman; the troubled NBC sitcom The Michael Richards Show, the first show from a "Seinfeld" alumn; and CBS's much anticipated Bette Midler sitcom "Bette" lasted long, despite being the season's biggest bets. All eventually went in hiatus or didn't even get a full season order. Turns out having a famous lead doesn't automatically give a show high ratings. The Geena Davis Show premiered in October, 2000 on ABC. It made a strong debut following "Dharma & Greg," even after all the recasting, renaming and retooling the show went through to fit ABC's executives demands (the original version looked like a Sex and the City rip-off - which is understandable, considering that Terri Minsky used to write for the that show). Academy Award winning actress Geena Davis was the biggest attraction of the show, making to the cover of TV Guide's special fall 2000 edition, which also featured John Goodman, Bette Midler and Michael Richards. Despite its strong debut, ratings dropped as the weeks went by and by March it was replaced by the new Joan Cusak comedy, "What About Joan". ABC eventually brought Geena back to air the remaining episodes, but the show wasn't renewed for a second season. Still, The Geena Davis Show managed to be nominated for Best New TV Comedy Series for the People's Choice Award and Geena Davis also got a nomination herself. "International film star Gabriel Byrne (End of Days, The Usual Suspects) comes to television in a new comedy from Golden Globe Award-winning writer Cindy Chupack (Sex and the City), which examines the lives of three generations of men making their way through the dating world." "Byrne stars as Benjamin Madigan, a handsome, successful and charismatic architect in New York City. He is single, adorable and available and should be making out like a bandit with the ladies. But Benjamin is recently divorced, and after 20 years of being a dutiful husband and provider, he just hasn't got a clue about dating. He is a member of a rare breed of men -- the sexy man completely oblivious to his own sexiness. While his co-workers shove him into the dating world, he is full of the most rudimentary questions, like how soon to call a woman after she gives you her number. For the answers to these and many other questions, Ben can turn to his 16-year-old son, Luke (John Hensley), for whom juggling a series of girlfriends couldn't come more naturally. In addition, Ben's recently widowed father, Seamus (Roy Dotrice, TV's Beauty and the Beast), has just moved in. Seamus is ornery and speaks his mind, and with Luke's help, they might just be able to teach Benjamin a thing or two about dating and women in the 21st century." "Dignity isn't something you practice. You either have it or you don't." From the Emmy Award-winning creator of Ally McBeal and The Practice, comes David E. Kelley's newest series, Boston Public. The show is a dramatic, sometimes comedic, behind-the-scenes look at the personal and professional lives of teachers working at a midsize high school in Boston. At the top of the faculty chain of command is Steven Harper (Chi McBride), the strong and intimidating principal. Harper is the force behind the school's objective to make students smarter and better. From handling irate parents to confronting school bullies to settling disputes between his staff, every day brings a new challenge for Harper. At the head of the Social Studies department is Lauren Davis (Jessalyn Gilsig), who while battling it out with students has to avoid the advances of fellow administrator, Scott Guber (Anthony Heald), the stern and formidable vice principal. Other faculty members include: Harvey Lipschultz (Fyvush Finkel), the 80-year-old history teacher who longs for the past; Marilyn Sudor (Sharon Leal), the music teacher most of the male students want to sleep with; Harry Senate (Nicky Katt), the rebellious geology teacher known for his unusual teaching tactics; Marla Hendricks (Loretta Devine), the special education teacher who needs a medication cocktail to make it through the day; and Louisa Fenn (Rashida Jones), the school Secretary/Assistant to the Principal; and most recently, Ronnie Cooke (Jeri Ryan), the successful lawyer, who switches careers in order to teach at Winslow High.moreless

"Talented comic actor John Goodman returns to series television in this new half-hour comedy that puts a unique twist on family relations. "Goodman stars as William "Butch" Gamble, a beer-drinking, sports-loving Midwesterner who happens to be gay. Butch has decided to leave the liberal city of Los Angeles and return to his Ohio hometown--filled with less tolerant family members. His top priority is making amends with his son, Charlie. In the meantime, he's shacking up with his kid sister, Pamela. There are definitely no comforts of home -- unless you count the warmhearted bickering!" (FOX press release) Originally titled Don't Ask, this home-spun comedy lost just about everything from its original pilot -- except for stars Goodman and Greg Pitts. It even lost its originally announced time slot (Wednesday 8:00), as the people at FOX decided it wasn't good enough to lead off a night. When the reworked series premiered under the uninspiring title, Normal, Ohio, it still managed to perform well for the network, but was unceremoniously cancelled after just six airings -- after Goodman's People's Choice Award win for Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Show. This was because Normal's production company, Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, had another pilot in contention at FOX, Grounded for Life, and that show happened to be cheaper. Rubbing salt in the wound, the former FOX head who canned Normal, Ohio, Sandy Grushow, later "borrowed" its original title for his first pilot.moreless

After receiving strange messages related to Adam, Derek begins to search for clues to how and why his brother died. He and the Freakylinks team investigate the reasons behind Adam's death while hunting down stories for the website, and their weekly exploits bring them in contact with the "weird, the unusual, the occult, the paranormal, and the just plain silly".
Freakylinks was a horror/comedy/drama brought to us by the people who made The Blair Witch Project, and like that hit movie it also had a "reality hacking" website that was designed to look just like the site on the show (it is no longer officially online, but is available as a "portfolio" on Haxan's site). "Freakylinks.com" became one of the most active sites on the web before the series even aired, but all those hits did not translate into good ratings for the show. Set in a storybook Connecticut town populated with an eclectic mix of everyday folks and lovable lunatics, Gilmore Girls is a humorous multigenerational series about friendship, family and the ties that bind. Thirtysomething Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) has made her share of mistakes in life, but she has been doing her best to see that her college-bound daughter - and best friend in the world - Rory (Alexis Bledel), doesn't follow in her footsteps. That may be easier said than done, considering that the two share the same interests, the same intellect, the same coffee addiction and the same eyes. Rory is more serious than Lorelai, but there are tendencies, especially in the love department, that clearly indicate she is her mother's daughter. From the beginning, this unique mother-daughter team has been growing up together. Lorelai was just Rory's age when she became pregnant and made the tough decision to raise her baby alone.

Gilmore Girls was the first series to make it to air supported by the Family Friendly Forum's script development fund. An initiative between some of the nation's top advertisers and The WB, the program is intended to offer a greater array of compelling family programming on network television. The strong and loving mother-daughter relationship portrayed in Gilmore Girls reflects the growing reality of this new type of American family.moreless
