By the end of 1976, producer extraordinaire Norman Lear had a crisis on his hands. His cult-favorite sitcom Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman imploded when its star, Louise Lasser, went through emotional trauma that forced her to resign. But Hartman's hometown of Fernwood, Ohio (ZIP Code 45989) would not shrivel up. Toward the end of the next summer, a new set of characters emerged with a "talk show" called Fernwood 2Night, airing (originally) live from Channel 6 in Fernwood. The host of Fernwood 2Night was Barth Gimble, who had left a very successful talk show in Miami under circumstances similar to Louise Lasser's real-life breakdown. Barth returned to his home of Fernwood to start this new talk show on Channel 6. Immediately, he used it as a platform to deny the charges made against him in the Fernwood Courier ("There has never been a conviction"). But on the bright side, Barth did get in banter with interesting guests, his second banana Jerry Hubbard, and musical director Happy. Original production number: 127 Barth promotes the planned Garth Gimbel Memorial Tennis Classic. W.D. "Bud" Prize (Kenneth Mars) returns, and bows to public demands that he reveal the secret of his chinadonture treatment. In a rebuttal to Dr. Van Moot (aka Dr. Osgood), Phil Maltby (Morgan Upton) of Phil's Fashion Funwear and Medical Research Lab explains that leisure suits, far from causing cancer, actually can help cure disease. "Bud" Prize is so stimulated by this revelation that he falls asleep.moreless

Welcome to the Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman guide at tv.com

Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman!..that's how each episode of this satire started. The show was the brainchild of Norman Lear (Famous for All in the Family, Maude, and others), and was so controversial that none of the three major networks would air it. It was sold into five-day-a-week first-run syndication. Every weekday, you could catch an episode that featured the trials and tribulations of Fernwood, Ohio. It was a satire of soaps, spoofing many parts of the genre. Mary Hartman, the main character, was a middle-class suburban housewife in the town of Fernwood, Ohio. Mary had many problems, one of them being the yellow buildup on her kitchen floor. Other problems she had included having a sullen pre-teen daughter, strange and bizarre parents, an outspoken sister, and a dim and sexually unsatisfying husband. Mary was surrounded by kidnappings, mass murders, car accidents, and much more. The series was loved by critics and audiences alike, and was cancelled only because the star Louise Lasser decided to leave. The series had three spinoffs: Fernwood 2Night (1977), Forever Fernwood (1977-1978), and America 2Night (1978) VERY special thanks to Pavanbadal for supplying episode summaries for episode 23 and episodes 25 - 325. Without him, there would be no summaries for those episodes!moreless

Everything for Wyatt Earp III, great grandson of the the infamous OK Corral lawman gunslinger dude. He didn't much care for his, which made him the laughing stock of everyone he'd meet when they asked what to call him. It especially didn't endear him to cops, who all thought he was being a wiseass until he showed them his ID. Wyatt was straight as an arrow and tough as a tank, while his brother Evan was the polar opposite -- a hipster doofus with a penchant for con artistry and bungled repairwork. If Evan had a motto, it would be, "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is." Their mother, Amanda, bought into the Earp legend hook, line and sinker. A Granny Moses type, she sought to carry on the family tradition with her trusty shotgun. And, for an old bag-cum-wannabe bounty hunter, she could certainly shoot with the best of them... even if she didn't necessarily hit her target. No matter how much Wyatt wanted to distance himself from his legacy, his job as the bouncer and right-hand man of the Sladetown Carnival made sure trouble followed him wherever he went. Wyatt's boss and Sladetown's owner, the heavy-set "Cactus" Jack Slade, was always on Wyatt's tail to make sure the customers kept the peace and didn't heckle the attractions. Keeping it all in the family, Slade's pretty daughter Ellen, Sladetown's travelling tutor slash lion tamer, also happened to be dating Wyatt. Meanwhile, his teenage son, Michael, had to cope with the Earp family eccentricities and his lack of a normal kid's life, as well as the fact that his father and his teacher were an item.moreless

During the mid-1980s, prime-time soaps ruled the airwaves and ABC, which already had a hit with Dynasty, tried again withPaper Dolls. Unfortunately, this attempt was less successful and Paper Dolls was cancelled after three months. The show was based on a 1982 TV movie, which centered around the modeling business and the corruption of two beautiful and innocent teenage models Taryn and Laurie. However, in the transition to a weekly series, the focus was split between the modeling business and the Harper family whose wealthy conglomerate had a small stake in the modeling business. As a result, the show was diluted with too many characters and convoluting plotlines for viewers to get invested. The original two-hour episode aired opposite the 1984 Prime Time Emmy Awards and scored decent ratings, however, subsequent episodes failed to live up to the ratings potential and the show quietly went off the air before resolving any plotlines. Interestingly enough, the two actresses who played the teen models in the series, Terry Farrell and Nicollette Sheridan, later appeared in more successful series. Farrell co-starred in both Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Becker, while Sheridan enjoyed a seven-year stint as Paige on Knots Landing and is currently playing Edie on Desperate Housewives.moreless

The X-Files is a Peabody, Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning American science fiction television series created by Chris Carter, which first aired on September 10, 1993, and ended on May 19, 2002. Running for 9 seasons, the show was a hit for the Fox Broadcasting Company network, and its main characters and slogans (e.g., "The Truth Is Out There", "Trust No One", "I Want to Believe") became pop culture touchstones. The X-Files is seen as a defining series of the 1990s, coinciding with the era's widespread mistrust of governments, interest in conspiracy theories and spirituality, and the belief in the existence of extraterrestrial life. TV Guide called The X-Files the Second greatest cult television show and the 37th best television show of all time. In 2007, Time magazine included it on a list of the "100 Best TV Shows of All Time." In 2008, Entertainment Weekly named it Classic Sci-fi and the fourth best TV show in the last 25 years. This long running FOX drama lasted nine seasons and focused on the exploits of FBI Agents Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, John Doggett and Monica Reyes and their investigations into the paranormal. From genetic mutants and killer insects to a global conspiracy concerning the colonisation of Earth by an alien species, this mind-boggling, humourous and occasionally frightening series created by Chris Carter has been one of the world's most popular sci-fi/drama shows since its humble beginnings in 1993. "Frasier" provides a weekly dose of the neuroses and tribulations suffered by an insecure and pompous psychiatrist, Dr. Frasier Crane, host of a Seattle radio advice show at KACL. The twice-divorced doctor's peaceful home life of fine cigars and haute cuisine was shattered when his gruff, ex-cop father, Martin, was injured in the line of duty and forced to move in with Frasier. Martin brought with him a semi-psychic, live-in home-care provider, Daphne Moon, his pesky Jack Russell terrier, Eddie, and a duct-taped recliner that clashes with Frasier's more aesthetically pleasing Eames and Wassily chairs. Their home is frequently visited by Frasier's snobbish and competitive brother, Niles, a fellow psychiatrist whose longtime romantic interest in Daphne was finally happily realized at the conclusion of Season 7. At work, his slightly jaded producer and man-hungry single parent Roz Doyle, supports Frasier. Some of the people who voice the callers to Frasier's radio program are often bigtime celebrities. "Frasier", starring Kelsey Grammer in his Emmy Award-winning title role of Dr. Frasier Crane, made history by becoming the first series, comedy or drama, to achieve a record five consecutive Emmy wins for Outstanding Comedy Series. With this achievement, the series stands ahead of "Cheers", the series from which "Frasier" was spun-off. Overall, "Frasier" earned a total of 37 Emmys (more than any other series in history), including four for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Kelsey Grammer and four for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for David Hyde Pierce. It's also interesting to point out that Kelsey Grammer played the part of Frasier for 20 years, tying him for the longest duration playing the same character on television and, that the show included guest appearances from almost all regulars from "Cheers", excluding Kirstie Alley. "With a Little Help From My Friends" is a song written by the Beatles (and expertly covered by Joe Cocker) and it could easily be the subtitle for the thirty minute comedy, "Friends". In 1994, the idea was created for "Friends": a show about six friends in New York as they navigate their way through life and learn to grow up as they approach their thirties. All, with the help from each other to get them through the obstacles that life naturally has for us. Monica is the excessively neat and organized "older sister" of the group, who works as a chef while yearning to find her ideal love. Ross, Monica's older brother, is a paleontologist with a lifelong crush on Rachel. He is a laid-back man with low self esteem and a recent divorcee. Rachel is the pretty, bubbly girl who spent most of her life as a spoiled rich princess. Now she must learn to face the real world. Chandler is Ross' college buddy and the guy who will crack jokes at a moment's notice. Phoebe is a lovable eccentric masseuse who easily could have fit in with Haight Ashbury in the 1960s. And then there's Joey, the friend who has an inverse relationship between his good looks and his intelligence. He dreams of becoming an actor. These six individuals make up the cast of Friends.

In May 2004, Friends officially ended it's phenomenal 10 year run. The show's time slot was taken over by a spin-off called Joey.moreless

A store reorganization forced these two departments to share floor space, and the conflicts that this created set the tone for most episodes. Are You Being Served? showcases a bygone period of time in which the class structure was still very much alive. There was a strict heirarchy within Grace Brothers.
