Episode Summary

Soul Food
The forerunner to the popular hit Showtime series. Teri, a beautiful and successful lawyer, has entirely no patience for dreamers. So when her husband Miles informs her that he wants to pursue his dream of a music career, she shows little support which ultimately results into a divorce when Miles finds "support" from Teri's trouble-making cousin Faith. Maxine is a happy, loving wife and mother of three, but wonders if she's doing anything important with her life. Bird, the youngest Joseph sister, runs her own hair salon while her newly husband, Lem, an ex-con, struggles to find work. Although each Joseph sister is different, they come together to keep their family in order. But when Mama Joe suddenly becomes ill and dies, the family slowly drifts apart. So little Ahmad, Maxine's bright and intelligent son, steps up to keep his grandmother's tradition alive and become the glue that keeps his family together.moreless
