    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • Characters featured in the first commercial bumper: Empress Kyouhi, Kashi, and Kou Kihi

      • Character featured in the second commercial bumper: Youzen, with his Koutenken Paopei

      • In the manga, when Taikoubou blocks Dakki-Youzen's attack, Taikoubou took the full force of that attack and made Youzen feel guilty (Taikoubou didn't block it with his Dashinben, like he does in the anime).

    • QUOTES (1)

    • NOTES (9)

      • After what he did to Emperor Zhou (he attacked Zhou with his Kinben), Bunchu has himself imprisoned.

      • Youzen is commonly known as the Genius Doushi.

      • Taikoubou knew that Youzen was disguising himself as Dakki because Youzen's Sansentou Paopei was the giveaway.

      • This episode reveals that Youzen can transform himself.

      • Character Description: Kashi

        Reputed to be the most beautiful woman in China, Kashi is the raven-haired wife of Duke Kou Hiko and mother of Kou Tenka. Her comely exterior hides the strong will and determined spirit instilled in her by a warrior family. Entrusted with the princes by the incarcerated Empress Kyouhi, Kashi is drawn into Dakki's treacherous web when she is invited to Chouka to negotiate the Empress' release. Although suspicious of a trap, Kashi believes herself capable of dealing with Dakki and travels (with sister-in-law Kou Kihi) to the Imperial Palace. Here, Kashi is trapped by the lust-filled Emperor, who desires to gaze upon her beautiful face. As it is forbidden for the Emperor to look upon the faces of his retainers' wives, Kashi chooses to throw herself off the balcony rather than be dishonored by this shameful act.

      • Kashi, Kou Hiko's wife, and Kou Kihi, Hiko's sister, both commit suicide. Thus, they are houshined.

      • Youzen's trident-like Paopei is known as Sansentou. It has offensive and defensive capabilities of no specific nature.

        san = three
        sen = sharp
        tou = sword

      • Youzen's test for Taikoubou is for Taikoubou to let some refugees pass through Rintou Outpost.

      • Youzen decides to join Taikoubou and his friends.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Minor pun with Youzen's weapon -

        Youzen, while disguised as Dakki, uses his Sansentou to attack Taikoubou's party. When he/she attacks, he/she says "Sanmai ni orosu!" ("I'll chop you to bits!"). The "san" in "sanmai" is the same as the "san" in "Sansentou," Youzen's three pronged weapon. In each case, the "san" means "three." Presumably Youzen thought he was being quite clever in saying this verbal pun. Unfortunately, this type of word play is not translatable for the script.
