I recently watched this episode of Soul Train and was blown away. From the incredible vocals of Minnie Riperton to the classic Stevie Wonder, it was an extraordinary show. Minnie Riperton's vocal range is spectacular. I've never heard Wintley Phipps before and if anyone could tell me where I could purchase the two songs he performed, "I Give You My Light" and "Sing a Song of Love," I will be eternally grateful. I was crying at 3:00 in the morning when he performed his tribute to Minnie Riperton. Nearly 30 years later this show is still extraordinary! Please air it again!moreless

Over the years, I have heard so much about this rare episode and I have always wanted to see it. Well, imagine my surprise when I found out that it was being rebroadcast! I'm glad that I finally saw this episode about Minnie Riperton. I almost cried during Whitby Phelps' performances: they were so moving and were so into the spirit of remembering Minnie. Stevie had some nice words as well, so that was great to see the Wonder of wonders here. But it was all over for me when the clips of Minnie singing "Memory Lane" came on. I cried, I actually cried! Soul TRain did a wonderful, wonderful job with this show and hope that the old shows keep coming.moreless
  • soul train's special tribute to minnie riperton featuring stevie wonder and wintly phipps.

yes, this is a very fitting tribute to minnie. i think she would have wanted it that way. stevie wonder did a nice rendition of "lovin' you" (without the hi octave of course!)and wintly's voice was very deep and rich, his songs kind of made me cry...also flashbacks from minnie performing on soul train and another show. the s.t. dancers dancing to her songs willingly was a plus, oh, and two broadway dancers (one of them was Lorraine Johnson(?)was dancing in honor to minnie's song, "the simple things." all in all?.. a tribute minnie (r.i.p.) will rejoice to. la la lamoreless
