  • although the score is low I really can't judge this one completely until part 2. but for now as a stand alone it gets this score.

    6.5
this is something I didn't think would happen in south park, an episode that I need the next part to review. unlike other two parters like Cartoon Wars and the Startling where the jokes and comments were good enough that the first part was okay to go into without a need to know the next, this one isn't.

If you have heard the last seasons commentary you would know that this episode's idea is really recycled from the original idea with the coon in the first place but that was crapped due to them coming up with Margaritaville to parody that better. and I can't help but think they decided to make this having no idea how else to parody BP's oil spill that everyone was waiting for them to cover and must've been disappointed that the last two episodes, which were better than this one, didn't cover it at all.

Part 2 will Truly tell where this goes however as the Startling wasn't as good after I saw part 2 which could have the reverse effect here. so for now I'd say wait till Wedsday to see this so you can see part 2 right after as a full dish, but on it's own it's a crummy slab of bred for you till the next part is out.moreless
  • The Best Episode Of Season 14 So Far And A Great Follow Up From Season 13's The Coon.

    10
You didn't need to have seen Season 13's "The Coon" to enjoy this fantastic episode of South Park. The plot followed the Coon (Cartman) again wanting to change the crime wave in South Park. Only this time he has friends. The scenes between Cartman and the rest were brilliant and the side characters were well done. Everyone from Token to Timmy now had an alias. The most noticable friend however was Stan being turned into Toolshed (which obviously rules him out of being Mysterion.

The Coon and friends are waiting for a big disaster to happen to get themselves (or rather Cartman) famous. There plans to help to save people in a burning building were foiled by Captain Hindsight (more on him later) and so they set about waiting for something else. The next disaster comes in the shape of a second BP oil spill. Let me just say the advert with Tony Hayward apologising and chaning the name of BP to DP because they f**k you twice was fantastic, BP were well deserving of a piss take. Anyway the episode was one of the best because it never let up. It playfully ripped on all superheroe comics from Marvel to DC and took apart the BP oil spill as well. The character of Captain Hindsight being probably the worst superhero ever, as his superpower consisteed of telling people what they should have done, was brilliant. The fact all the public adored him was the icing on the cake.

This episode was easily the funniest and the best of the season so far. This season has been a bit up and down so far, but the first few episodes after the break have been brilliant. I hope it continues on until the ending.moreless
  • It wasn't bad. I'd watch it again, but....

    6.5
Let me be clear this was a decent episode and I feel bad complaing about, and I can't really because it wasn't exactly memorable. I had to go back and skim through to jog my memory to write this review!

It definatly had it's funny moments, but I can't say I found mr Hindsight very funny. Trying a bit too hard to be funny and clever at the same time, which felt a bit half baked to me. The BP element to the story was pretty good too, the I'm sorry speeches took a bit too much time up for me but apart from that I enjoyed it. The whole ripping ripping a whole into another dimension felt very reminicant of classic Sout Park ludicrousness, and something I welcomed!

There's a lot of fun with the 'which superhero is Kenny?' theme as well. But it isn;t very pronounced, it's almost like it might have been by accident and I'm seeing something which they aren't actually doing. With that said I think it could have been exploited more to the episodes advantage.

I wasn't a fan of the original coon episode so this was always going to not go down greatly with me. Because i'm a bit meh about this episode the discovery it will be a two parter isn't exactly thrilling either. The concept isn't exciting or interesting enough to me.

There's also something very generic about this episode too...A typical lets go after a company story. Everything that occurs is expected. But it isn't exactly bad, it is an alright episode.

I don't hate it and theres some good moments, but it's not pushing my buttons really.moreless
  • The Coon Returns

    8.5
I love it when South Park does superhero related episodes and Cartman returns as the crime fighter the Coon. In this episode Coon forms a team call Coon and Friends with Stan,Timmy,Token,Bradley,Kenny,Clyde, and Kyle. I kind of wish Jimmy was apart of team and some reason Cartman let Mysterion be apart of the team why did they tell us why. Then Coon and Friends try to do some good in the World and something about the BP oil spill. Okay after the end of the episode I think that Kenny is Mysterion all the clues go to him and hope theres another Coon episodemoreless

Stan: Mom, Dad, I've finished dinner. Can I go up to my room?
Sharon: Sure, Stan. (Stan walks upstairs) How did that thing get there, Randy?
      Randy: I don't know.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • A Clockwork Orange

Cartman attacks Mosquito for changing the rules about the chain of command of Coon and Friends. The slow motion and music playing is directly from A Clockwork Orange. The circumstances surrounding the incident are very similar as well.
