I haven't really looked into it beyond what is on the south park studios website, but it appears season 17 doesn't start until September 25 and will consist of 10 episodes.

Please tell me you're joking! I cannot wait almost all year long to catch a new season of the greatest adult comedy on television! Normally each season of South Park the 1st half is March to April (At First March to August) and 2nd Half October to November (At First Middle of October to December and in very first August to January or February). I guess the new episode schedule is changing now! That means starting at Season 17 it might go from September to the Spring. I mind waiting this long though, I'd be more upset if this show is being booted off the air (Luckily it isn't and it'll be probably a very very very long time from now and I hope it is).

Personally I think that South Park as a series has run its course. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are incredibly talented guys. Everything they produce is gold, and if seeing an end to South Park frees them up to start something new then I for one would be incredibly excited about that.

What makes you think it has run its course? The excellent episodes of the last season, or the fact that the show both stays true to its roots as well as keeping up with current times?

We will probably get another Holiday/Christmas episode, too. We haven't had one of those in a while.

The one thing to note is that there won't be a break at the halfway point. All 10 episodes will air over 10 weeks.
