South Park

Season 6 Episode 8

Simpsons Already Did It

Aired Wednesday 10:00 PM Jun 26, 2002 on Comedy Central

  • Trivia

    • When Chef drives all the boys home and Cartman goes to bed, he goes to bed in his normal clothes. When he tells the others about the Sea People, he's in his pajamas.

    • In the syndicated version, when Butters starts imagining people look like Simpsons characters, General Disarray (as Bart), says "Don't have a cow". Butters immediately runs off screaming, but it sounds like one of Tweek's screams instead.

    • When Dougie mentions the Simpsons episode about shaking up beer cans, he only mentioned part of the title by saying "So It's Come To This...". The full title of the episode is "So It's Come To This: A Simpsons Clip Show".

    • During reruns of this episode the line about Cartman sucking "semen from a hose" and Stan's reaction is cut.

    • Simpsons episode 204 was called "Lard of the Dance." It was the season 10 premiere and it had nothing to do with a monorail unlike what Dougie says.

    • While the kids are in the morgue, to get the semen back, there is a jar on a desk in the background with a pair of testicles in them, and the jar is labeled "Hitler." It appears that Hitler's balls are in the South Park morgue.

    • When they showed the cut-open Ms. Chokesondick, she is opened up in a V shape. During real autopsies, people are cut in a Y shape.

    • Slightly different opening credits with little clips of Tweek.

    • Wink-E-Mart is basically calling it a Penis-Mart

    • The "Wink-E-Mart" was no goof, it was just picking on Kwik-E-Mart

    • Butters said That Treehouse of Horror II is episode 4F02 but that's really Treehouse of Horror VII, Treehouse of Horror II is 8F02. [ Editor's note: I believe that in this case "to" or "too" was implied and not "two," which means there is no error. ]

    • The Kwik-E-Mart was spelled Wink-E-Mart.

    • When Butters said that he watched all 132 episodes of The Simpsons was wrong because at the time this episode aired, there were 291 episodes aired.

  • Quotes

    • Butters: (discussing his evil plans) We shall take over the world by causing a huge soccer riot, so that we can-
      Dougie: Simpsons did it!
Butters: We shall shake up all the beer cans with a mixer machine, so that they-
Dougie: Simpsons did it! They did it in Episode 9F17, entitled "So It's Come To This...".
Butters: (miffed) Fine! Then I guess I'll forget about trying to destroy the world and just run away and join the circus!
      Dougie: Simpsons did it.
      (Butters yells in frustration.)

    • (referring to Kyle)
Cartman: If Nancy doesn't want to chip in then it will be $5.45 per person!

      Liane: That's nice poopey.

    • Cartman: What's your name?
      Francis: Francis Bellmen.
Cartman: Francis let's talk. I don't want a bunch of bull crap from you, you don't want a bunch of bull crap from me right, where does that get us nowhere. The truth is I'm completely certified to handle sea men, and though I may appear young, I'm one of the leading sea men authorities of the midwest. Real up and commer, you know what I'm saying. I'll have my own business soon, and i'll need people to help me run it. I'm talking about you Francis, I'm talking about a six figure income how's that sound? (Francis doesn't answer)

    • Butters: (as Professor Chaos) I've done it General Disarray, i've watched all 132 episodes of The Simpsons, twice. And I have finally come up with something they have never done. Behold, this device that I have made will take the cherries out of chocolate covered cherries and replace the inside instead, with 2 month old mayonnaise . People will think that they are gonna get a bite of a sweet delicious cherry but instead they will get a mouthful of yucky, sticky mayonnaise. (does a sinister laugh) You never seen this on The Simpsons right?
Dougie: (as General Disarray) No I think The Simpsons would be more clever than that.

    • Cartman: I've been up for hours doing some calculations, and i've come up with my final theory of composite dynamics. Sea people plus sea men equals sea-ciety.

    • Cartman: You guys! You guys! You're not gonna beleive it! Everythings going to be okay you guys, life isn't so crappy after all!
      Tweek: It's not?
Cartman: No! I was looking in this magazine and I found an add for little ocean creatures that you can buy and raise in your room!
      Kyle: No way.
Cartman: Look! (points to magazine) Sea People! You keep them in a big tank of water and they like, build castles and play basketball and stuff!
      Kyle: Nuh ah.
Cartman: Yeah! And look they ride around on turtles and play games with fish!
      Kyle: No way.
Cartman: Okay Kyle, you're being a Negative Nancy. Stop it. Okay unless you wan't everyone to call you Negative Nancy from now on.

    • Cartman: (Singing) Look at me, living free! Free and clean amongst the Sea People. We look for pirates and search for gold. Life is an adventure with the Sea People! They don't ever complain, they don't call me fat. They don't make me do homework or nothing like that. This is the way life was meant to be. Laughing and singing, Sea People and me. Sea People and me, you guys. (Song fades out) Wow! Only three more hours Sea People. Only three hours and you can take me away from this crappy God damned planet full of hippies.

    • Kyle: (about the Sea People) What are we going to do with them now?
Cartman: I'm gonna send a message to my people and tell them to develop a great machine that will shrink me down to their size, so I can live amongst them forever.
      Butters: Aha! (laughs victoriously
Cartman: What the hell is wrong with you, Butters?
Butters: They did that on "The Simpsons" already! "Treehouse of Horror", Episode 4F02 - "The Genesis Tub"! Lisa loses a tooth, and the bacteria on it start to grow, and makes a little society, and they build a statue of her thinking she's their God! Ha!
      Cartman: So?
      Kyle: Yeah. So?
Butters: Y-you guys aren't upset that "The Simpsons" have already done it?
Cartman: Dude, "The Simpsons" have done everything already, so who cares?
Stan: Yeah, they've been on the air for, like, 13 years, so of course they've done everything.
Mr. Garrison: Every idea has already been done, Butters, even before "The Simpsons".
Chef: Yeah; in fact, that episode was a rip-off of a "Twilight Zone" episode.
Butters: Really? So I shouldn't care if I come up with an idea, and "The Simpsons" already did it? It...doesn't really matter. (sees everyone in their original style) Everything is back to normal! I think I can go back to trying to destroy the world again!
      Chef: Good for you!
Cartman: Yeah, that's great, Butters. Now get the hell out of my room.

    • Kyle: I guess this proves that war is the natural order of life.
Cartman: Why can't societies just live in peace?

    • (The boys are watching the semen spread in the aquarium.)
: Close your eyes and suck it out of a hose?
: Yep, suck it out of a hose.
      : Hmm.
      : Hmm.

    • Kyle: Wow. That's a lot of sea men you've got there, Cartman.
Cartman: Yeah, I bought all that I could at this bank, and then I got the rest from this guy Ralph in an alley.
      Stan: That's cool.
Cartman: Yeah, and the sweet thing is, this stupid asshole didn't even charge me money for it. He just made me close my eyes and suck it out of a hose!

    • Kyle: We paid for the sea people too. How come they're not making statues of us?
Cartman: Be you not jealous, Jew. I am creator of all things, yeah.

    • Reporter: … But Hillary Clinton's ass just keeps getting bigger.

    • Stan: Okay now put on the nose Tweek.
Tweek: I can't you do it.
      Kyle; Just stick it on.
Tweek: But what if I put it in the wrong place?
Stan: Just put it between it's eyes.
Tweek: But what if, while I'm putting on the nose, the snowman comes to life and tries to kill me?
Stan: Tweek, when has that ever happened, except for that one time?

    • Butters: No! No!
Dougie as Bart: Simpsons did it! Simpsons did it!

    • Butters: (to himself) God damn it... How come every time I think of something clever, "The Simpsons" already did it?

    • Cartman: I got ripped off!
      Kyle: I told you, Cartman.
Cartman: Oh, shut up, Kyle! Shut your God damned Jew mouth! You people are why there's war in the Middle East! And you Tweek. Why don't you learn to button your shirt up right for once? You're as bad as Stan and his stupid girlfriend, God I hate you guys!

  • Notes

    • Mrs. Choksondik dies in this episode.

    • If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Mackey has became a father in this episode if it were truly his semen used in Cartman's sea-ciety.

    • The Simpsons return the nod in the 14th season episode The Bart of War.

    • On the first part, where Tweek was afraid of Snowman coming to life by putting a carrot nose on the snowman, this maybe a reference to the short that introduced South Park called "Jesus vs. Frosty", where snowman came to life, but the hat made the snowman come to life, not the carrot.

  • Allusions

    • The Little Mermaid:

Cartman has a short musical number with the Sea People. It's very similar to the "Under The Sea" number in the movie "The Little Mermaid". Ironically, an episode of "The Simpsons" also had Homer doing a number like that.

    • Futurama: This is one of the most [accidentally] ironic episodes of the show, because in an episode of Futurama (another brainchild by Simpsons creator Matt Groening), entitled Godfellas Bender (a robot) gets lost in space, and a race of beings leeches onto his stomach from an asteroid. They think he is a God, and eventually kill themselves by bombing the "infidels" on Bender's ass, exactly like in this episode of South park.

    • The Twilight Zone:

The idea of the miniature society worshiping a human is used in at least one episode, if not more. Chef makes note of this near the end.

    • Matt and Trey:

Butters reaction when he learns that "The Simpsons already did it" mimic Matt and Trey's own reaction when they think of a good idea, then realize that the simpsons did it already, leaving them with random ideas.

    • Simpsons Parodies:

Some of the South Park characters during Butter's hallucinations had certain physical traits similar to other Simpson characters. Miss Crabtree has a headset like Otto; Mr Garrison had glasses similar to Smithers.

    • Homer Vs. Patty And Selma:

The scene where Chef pushes the couch the boys are sitting on out his front door is an allusion to the Simpsons episode "Homer vs. Patty and Selma". In that episode, Patty and Selma are sitting on a couch that Homer pushes out his front door.

    • My Buddy And Kid Sister:

Cartman: ...laughin' and singin', sea people and me...

That song is partially a parody of the commercial songs for two failed 1980s toys named My Buddy and Kid Sister. They both had 10-second songs to them with a similar rhythm and sound to Cartman's song, and ended with "(name of toy) and me!"

    • Jesus Vs. Frosty:

Tweek: "But what if it comes to life and tries to kill me?"

After Tweek says this and Stan says, "How many times has that actually happened, besides that one time?" He is referring to the "Jesus vs. Frosty" pilot episode.

    • Simpsons Episodes:

      Butters: Too many to count…

Of course, all of Butters' schemes referenced various Simpsons episodes. Blocking out the sun in episode 128/129. Decapitating the town statue in episode 8. Selling the monorail in episode 71. The thing with the angel in episode 186. Shaking up the cans in episode 77. Making a little society in episode 154. Spreading rumors via a website is episode 254. Soccer riot is episode 183.
